{tw: gore!}

"Holy shit. Who did this?" Renae said as the two looked at the scene before them. Multiple soldiers were hanging from ropes in the center of the building. At least twenty feet in the air, blood covering every bit of their slashed body. Renae could only handle it for so long before looking away. Ellie grimaced and looked towards one of the walls. Her eyes went wide as she went to get a closer look.

"Hey Renae, look at this." Ellie said as she grabbed her journal out.

"What do you think it is?" Renae asked as she inspected it closer.

"A message." Ellie deadpanned.

"But why go through all that work?" Renae asked, as she stepped back to admire the work.

"To send it to the right people." Ellie said, putting her journal back into her backpack.

The two investigated the whole first floor, not finding anything of value. Renae pulled her pistol out as she climbed the stairs. She was feeling extremely paranoid after seeing all of the hanging bodies. It felt as though until this moment the situation they were in wasn't real, not until realizing that there were more threats than some wolves and infected. The second floor also didn't have much besides some supplies, but eventually the two ending up on the balcony.

"Ellie what the hell are you doing right now." Renae said as Ellie began to climb up onto a piece of trim that wrapped around to what Renae assumed was the third floor.

"Don't worry about it. There's plenty of foot room up here." Ellie said as she shimmied against the wall to a nearby window.

"Dude. No way you're gonna make me climb this." Renae said as she began to climb to the trim as well.

"You can wait if you're scared, there may be nothing." Ellie said as she stepped inside of the broken window and waited for Renae to shimmy. Eventually Renae made it inside as well, and Ellie could feel the girls slight tremor.

"Hell no." Renae said as she looked around and shook her head. The two investigated further, still not being able to find much. "Hey, a body." Renae said as she pointed to the dead body blocking the stairwell.

"Another WLF?" Ellie asked as Renae looked at the jacket and nodded. Ellie pursed her lips, before shoving the body aside to open the door to the stairs. "After you." Ellie said as Renae climbed the stairs. The two listened before opening the door, but heard nothing except what sounded like radio static. Or maybe only Renae heard that, since her hearing was still extremely muffled on one side from before. Renae opened the door and peeked inside.

"Good." She said as she opened it wider and walked in. The two searched yet again for anything, but all they heard was static coming from the last room. Ellie opened the door, and before them laid Leah, a girl that Renae forgot about until she saw her dead.

-:-:-:-:-

"Leah you've gotta stop falling asleep during history class or you're never gonna get past the final to clear you for actual duty." Renae said, rolling her eyes as the two sat and studied in Renae's room. It had been a few months since she was shot by her infected best friend, and she had mostly recovered physically.

"Blah blah blah Renae. That's all I hear. Blahhhh blahhhh blahhh." Leah said as she slumped her head down into one of her textbooks.

"Whatever just don't come crying when you're not allowed to hold a gun without supervision." Renae said, shutting one of her textbooks.

"Hey did you know that Jordan has a crush on someone?" Leah said with a smirk. "I wonder who it is!" She said.

Renae scoffed, looking out the window towards the field. "I bet it's you. He never stops looking at you whenever we hang out as a group." Renae said.
