Part 2 ~ Ch 7 - Echos Across the Isle

Astrid sat on one of the small islands that Hiccup used to sit on. She would always find him drawing pictures of her or some type of dragon. Toothless has been gone this whole time and he probably doesn't even know his rider is – gone.

It had been almost two months since everything spiraled out of control. It has also been almost a month since she avenged her husband's tragic death. The death of Grimmel was very satisfying, but it didn't fill the hole that Hiccup left in her heart. Astrid was still grateful for everyone trying to make her feel better.

Yesterday, Heather went on a long flight with Astrid. Their silly conversations almost made Astrid forget about Hiccup – she didn't like that. Valka, who had lost her son and her husband, had been handling everything better than Astrid. Valka and Astrid held on tight to each other because they didn't have much family left. Valka tried showing Astrid how cook and bake food since Hiccup usually took care of that. It didn't go well...

Relaying back on everything that has happened, Astrid is very thankful for the life that Hiccup had given her. She had a strong and loving Husband, and an adorable little boy who resembled his father so much, and she couldn't forget all of the adventures that she had been in over the years.

Back on Einvald, the empress and her Deadly Nadder landed back on land to find havoc everywhere. There were many, too many, dragons filling up the whole island. Astrid looked around to figure out what was happening when she spotted a black blur ascending in the square.

Toothless had returned and it seemed that he brought a plethora of dragons with him, as well as the Lightfury. Astrid ran up to him and gave him a giant hug. She needed every piece of Hiccup that she could get. Toothless rubbed his head under Astrid's hand while cooing excitedly.

The Lightfury landed next to them and she seemed to be much more tame than the last time Astrid saw her. The white dragon rubbed her head against Toothless. The pair seemed to have mated, which meant that the lightfury was now the queen of dragons. Toothless roared and all of the dragons settled down.

Valka came running up to Astrid, " They seem to have all followed him here. Thor, where have they all come from?" Astrid merely shook her head and replied, " There must be something wrong with wherever they came from. Dragons never leave their habitat unless forced."

Eret, Heather, and Dagur all arrived on the scene when Toothless seemed to be looking for something. Astrid and Valka looked at each other saddly, knowing what Toothless wanted. Astrid slowly approached the confused dragon and started rubbing behind his ear. "Hey bud," she said calmly, "Hiccup isn't here right now." This caught the dragon's attention. Astrid tried to hold back her tears, " He's not going to be back for a very long time."

Toothless looked even more confused to she went straight to the point, "He is in Valhalla." At those words, Toothless took a step back, trying to understand what she meant. Finally, he processed everything and he went berserk. He started sniffing and screeching all over the island.

Eventually, Astrid and Stormfly caught up and tried to calm the Nightfury down. Toothless was on Itchy Armpit and he looked devastated. "Hey bud." Astrid put her hands to Toothless' face, " He died a warrior– he died protecting me." Astrid had tears running freely.

Toothless gave a sad warble and rested his head on her lap because he knew that this must be hard for Astrid too. The Valkyrie and the dragons watched the sun set. It reminded Astrid of Hiccup's drawings. For his birthday Astrid got him pencils with color from dragon quills and he would make the most beautiful drawings.

Hiccup's head pounded as he woke up, the light of the rising sun filtering through the dense jungle canopy above. Pain coursed through his body, a stark reminder of the torturing he had barely survived.
