When I woke up it was to him just staring me down, making me jump back and scramble up before I comprehend who it was.
"Good morning, darling,"He teased, grinning at me while eating his breakfast.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
"It's not so fun, is it?"
"Did you get up early just to scare me?"I asked in disbelief.
"No. I just got up a little bit before you and just waited for you to join me. I figured you'd be more eager to get up if you felt my presence."
"You are a prick,"I insulted, sitting beside him.
"Whatever you say, darling,"He shrugged.
"Your fake flirting is getting real old, loverboy,"I sighed, grabbing a can out of my bag. Turning it over, when I saw that it was peaches I started my routine of stabbing the lid as hard as I was capable of before twisting it. Once I had my hole I just stabbed the fruit and carefully ate it from my knife.
"That's not very sanitary if you use it for other things,"He pointed out.
"And using the same spoon is? Especially when you still get food on your fingers?"I pointed out. Not replying, he just ate another pear before drinking the rest of the juice from the can. "Give me your hands. They're probably disgusting,"I sighed, grabbing my mini hand sanitizer and giving him some. Rubbing his hands together, he thanked me as I did the same.
"See what I meant when I say you're always prepared? I could literally be on the brink of death, and you'd probably be able to fix it."
"You act like I can just solve every problem."
"But you can. You always have some kind of solution,"He insisted.
"I don't have solutions. I'm just actually prepared. Something you wouldn't know about."
"I am though. It's just that I'm just usually here to make sure we're doing something fun. I help us build that special, unspoken romantic bond."
"Romantic? Seriously?"
"Yes, romantic,"He repeated, looking me up and down as if taking offense to my words.
"You know what? If it gets you to be just a little normal today, sure. We can be romantic,"I sighed, standing up and putting my bag over my shoulder.
"You make it sound like you aren't absolutely in love with me,"He complained, doing the same. Starting to walk, I just nodded along. "Do you remember when we were younger after we first got trapped?"He suddenly asked.
"Yeah. It was a blur but also the most vivid time of my life,"I tried to explain.
"Well, do you remember what I told you on your very first birthday there?"
"That I need to stop acting like I'm not partially deaf and tell you when to turn the movie up?"
"No, not that. The other thing when it was really late, and we laid under that blanket fort with flashlights?"
"Yeah. You said that you didn't want to waste your life away. That you wanted to be something,"I recited.
"And after that?"He asked, hopping back on the railing to balance. Doing the same, I just asked what. "That I would only want to do that with you. That I would only ever want to be somewhere if it has you."
"I remember that now,"I shrugged. "Why?"
"Just wondering if you did,"He answered, holding his hand out from the other side of the rail.
