We didn't speak. Instead, we found our food and sat on the floor in front of each other. Despite the way I could feel him staring at me, I kept my gaze fixated on my lunch. I didn't want to look at him, because I already know what his expression is. He's gonna look guilty, because he feels bad about being a little snappy, and it'll just be awkward.
"Okay, I'm done with this,"He said, putting his can down.
"We can probably find somewhere to throw it-"
"No. I'm done with this. I don't want to just sit in silence. I mean I sometimes like sitting in silence and just being with you but not like this.""It's fine. It's-"
"It's not.""Aris-"
"I'm sorry I snapped at you. I shouldn't have done that. I never should.""It's fine-"
"It's not,"He interrupted, holding my face in his hands. Looking at me, he furrowed his eyebrows as he seemed to be attempting to figure something out. With my face burning, I stared back. "I'm sorry,"He whispered."I didn't mean to be pushy like that. I know it can get old, and I'm sorry."
"No. I love that about you. I do, and it has nothing to do with you. I promise it's all me."
"Is there something wrong then?"
"I . . . don't know . . . how to tell you. Not yet,"He said slowly, pulling his hands away.
"You don't have to,"I assured him.
"I do though. I just can't right now. I can't make the words right."
"That's okay. When you find the words, you come find me. Alright?"
"You're the first one I'll come to for anything,"He smiled.
"And you're mine too,"I nodded.
"So argument over?"
"We weren't arguing,"
"You know what I mean,"He sighed, picking his can back up.
"Yes. Slight disagreement over,"I confirmed.
"Good,"He grinned, nudging my foot with his. Rolling my eyes at his antics, I nudged him back anyway.
"Is the world anything you imagined? Anything at all?"
"Not really. So far the only problem is possible heat stroke,"He shrugged.
"Don't jinx it,"I said firmly.
"Sudden danger isn't going to appear because I said there hasn't been any,"He insisted.
"You don't know that."
"You can acknowledge possibilities without creating them."
"Well, why risk it anyway?"I pointed out.
"Well, why not?"He half mocked, a playful grin on his face.
"Because danger isn't fun,"I answered, using the tone back.
"Adrenaline disagrees,"He shrugged.
"Adrenaline is the cheap cousin of dopamine."
"So you're saying adrenaline is just the street dopamine?"
"Close but no. I'm saying that constant adrenaline either leads to a never ending chase or hard crash and dopamine is right now,"I clarified.
"So that makes me your dopamine?"He grinned, putting his legs out and crossing his ankles. Finishing my can off, I set it on the ground before leaning against the seat.
"It's good to see you'll take one sentence and fly with it like that,"I shrugged.
"Would it kill you to just say yes?"
Rolling my eyes at him yet again, I stretched my arms for a moment. Spotting the opportunity, he quickly moved directly beside me so when I set it down I wrapped it around him.
Accepting it, I sighed as I pulled him a little closer. Resting his head on my shoulder, he stared at the wall with me as we transitioned from a tense, almost forced silence to a casual, comfortable one.
