Don't hate me. I'm sorry if it sucks or if it wasn't the ending you were expecting. I sorta cried while writing this.
Epilogue
We sat their laughing outside in the gazebo in my new house. I turned 20, not too long ago. Austin bought me a house, near the new college I'm in. I kind of had a bad way of reacting to the new house. I'd told him numerous times, that I wanted a small apartment.
The kids are almost three years old, they walk, run, and clap. I honestly thought they'd be a handful, but they're pretty copacetic. They cried all night for two weeks for like two minutes and as soon as I fed them, they slept for almost the whole night till they woke up at six. Austin was there most of the time but I noticed how tired he was becoming from traveling back and forth between shows, so I told him to at least wait till he has a week off. Jake helped a lot too.
He watched Max, Skye and Carter while I would take a shower or go out and get more diapers and stuff.
"No? Carter, put it down." I tell Carter as he grabs a stick, running after Lex. Gabby thought calling both Alex and little Alex by the same nickname was confusing, so she started calling her son Lex. Zack calls him Lex Luthor. Big surprise there.
"I turtle," he smiles wide. I roll my eyes, getting up from the table, taking the stick from him. "You can be a ninja turtle later, go finish eating your food." He frowns but does it anyway.
Alex and Gabby live across from us. I've never seen Gabby so happy. And they're getting married in a few weeks. So right now I'm taking care of five children. Max, Carter, Skylar, Lex and Damian.
We're playing a game called 'Bullshit' with cards but we're trying not to yell it so the little ones won't hear us.
"Bullshit! I saw that! You put a three, it's supposed to be an eight!" Rob whisper-yells. It's Austin, Jake, Rob,
Zach, and Bryce. Austin stretches his arm, laughing as he grabs all the cards in the pile and adds then to the ones he has. Jake throws a card, face down, and as Zach is about to speak, but Jake's phone rings. He says timeout and everyone put their cards down. As he looks at the caller screen, his eyebrows furrow. He swipes the phone, pulling it up to his ear, holding a blank face.
"Hello?" I lean towards my husband, and eye him skeptically. "What?!" His face suddenly changes. "But I thought-" he cuts off and excuses himself.
My heart churns, and I know exactly who the call is from. I get up, and follow him out the the yard. As I approach, I catch his conversation.
"Where are they sending me? Why so far? But I thought that the president negotiated with them? Come on, man, I just got home two months ago." My eyes fill with tears as I wrap my arms around him, squeezing him, a tear slipping down my cheek. "With the situation under these circumstances, I can't promise a safe flight home, can I?" His voice drops a level and I know he wants to cry. "Alright. When does the unit want me to be there?" He pauses for a moment and nods. "Alright, First Sergeant, I'll see you in two days, Sir." He hangs up and rubs his face, twisting in his position to hug me back. I sob.
"Shh." He silences me, stroking my hair and planting a kiss. "Everything will be fine," he assures me.
I pull away and shake my head. "You can't be sure, Jake. I heard him. I'm sure as hell I won't have you back in one piece." I croak. He looks away from and nods. "Let's just pray that I do come back in one piece." I nod. I feel the presence of other people and look to my right, seeing the boys come close to us. "What's wrong?"
They look to both Jake and I, my throat tightening when their concerned faces see me. I open my mouth, about to speak, but I close it. It's hard to speak of the something like this. "He-" I start, but can't finish as I cover my mouth and walk away.
