Due to the rain, the sangeet function was moved indoors. Everything was going smoothly until it was time for all the cousins to come on stage and perform.
As everyone was enjoying the performances on the stage, I saw Advit standing backstage, drenched and lost in thought. His condition startled me, so before we could go on stage, I took him to his room with his sister, Ishani.
While Advit was changing his clothes and getting ready, Ishani asked me, "Did something happen, Di?"
I was taken aback. How could she know anything about us? "No," I replied. "But why are you asking, Ishani? Is everything alright?" I asked
"No, Di, nothing is alright. Bhaiya has never waited in the rain for anyone, nor has he ever gotten soaked like this for anyone. This has never happened before."
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
"Advit Bhai has never had a girlfriend. He always said he'd do these things for his dream wife. This is so unusual for him."
"No, this can't be," I thought. "Is Advit falling for me even more? Has he started loving me?"
But I had only met him three days ago. This couldn't be happening. I had to keep my distance to avoid hurting him. I could control my feelings, but maybe he couldn't.
I decided to stay away from him. Just two more days, and then I'd never see him again. Never.
The sangeet night passed. It was almost 1:00 AM when I was sitting in the verandah, reflecting on the past two days and my connection with Advit.
As I was lost in my thoughts, Advit came up behind me and said, "My Lil Dragon, what happened? Did I do something wrong during the dance? Why are you upset and not talking to me?"
"It's nothing like that," I replied, still deep in thought. "I've just been thinking a lot, maybe too much."
"Then stop thinking so much. After all, my Lil Dragon doesn't need to think this much for anyone. I'm here with you."
"Why are you like this, Advit?" I asked. "Why are you thinking about me? There are so many other people you could think about."
"Because you are my Lil Dragon, Dumbo," he replied in his soft, melodious voice.
I couldn't help but smile, feeling a warmth spread through me. Despite all my doubts and fears, his words and presence made everything feel right, even if just for a moment.
