Sela Varton

11 years

He is as she expected, an extraordinaire. She felt his soul. She felt it. And they meet again, unbeknownst to her father.

Is he a muggle born? A half blood? Or even pure? She does not know. Why such awful parents put him in an orphanage is beyond disgusting to her. She wondered why she thought so when all she thought about, while looking at the orphanage was to applicate herself there with him. It works well for the situation. She escapes her father and he shall have company.

As she walks alongside Adory, she had realized that she did not ask for his name. There was somehow a rush in her heart beckoning for her to escape him in the moment. She felt tingles behind her back before turning around. He was behind her, although not near enough but he was there. Not walking towards her, just at a slow pace but with his eyes directly on her.

"Students, welcome to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. Soon you will be walking in the door behind me, that will lead to the great hall and you can all join your classmates there. But before you take your seats, first years shall be sorted into their houses first." The professor said.

"There are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw... and Slytherin."

She had felt Avery nudged Lestrange. The children of her father's acquaintances.

"Your triumphs will bring you points. Any rule breaking will deduct those points. You don't want to be hex by your own housemates now do you?" The professor jokes as the students laugh.
"Go on, through the door."

With her permission, everyone walked through the door.

Before the sorting ceremony begins, the headmaster dippet had given them all a warm welcome and the restrictions of the entire castle, warning all first years of the dangers.

"Adory Longborn!" Her friend's name was called out by professor Vassy.

Sela gave her an assuring look as Adory climb up the stairs and sat down on the chair. The professor placed the sorting hat on her head.

"Ah I see. Hmm. A kind soul indeed. Although too emotional, are we?" The sorting hat utters as the room filled with laughter.

"Hufflepuff!"

Sela knew she was happy, since Adory talked about wanting to be sorted into the house non stop.

Adory beams as she hopped of the chair.

Names upon names were being called, and students upon students were sorted. Until it was him.

"Tom Riddle!" That is his name.

"Tom" she whispers to herself.

'Tom'

He climbed the steps with confidence. He sat at the chair, it was as quickly as the hat barely placed on his head before it declares.

"Slytherin!"

And so applauses came and Tom took his seat at the green table.

"Sela Varton." It is now her turn. She did not know which house she wants for herself.

"Ah I see, I see. Complicated this one. A mind of a learner indeed. Shall you want to be a Ravenclaw" The hat pulled her head to the blue table.

"Oh but are you ambitious and rage driven. A lot for a young girl your age. or shall it be Slytherin?" It once again pulled her head in another direction. And her eyes landed on him.
And so she made her decision.

"It is sorted then. Slytherin!" The hat decided.

Applause came again and she took off to find her seat. Tom is still eyeing her and so she thought what a better idea to go sit with him.

"Tom." She uttered.

"Sela." He did the same.

They stared at each other for a few seconds before she turned to look at the feast in front of her.

"You should eat." She told him as she began to put some vegetables and meat on her plate.

He did not say anything as he usually does but grabbed a drumstick, putting it on his plate.

They sat and ate their meals in silence until they were finished then Professor Dippet calls for bedtime.

They all followed the house prefect as he explains the patterns of the stairs. Told them the house's password and sort us into our rooms. Although Tom and Sela stayed behind. Both standing in silent where the common room resides. Sela begins her steps towards
the sofa. When Tom is still standing and unmoved, she patted the seat next to her as she always does. He complied.

"You need explanation. I know. And I shall tell you without an ounce of lie."

She begins "My father found out that I was meeting you. He stopped it as soon as he found out. I had no choice or else..."

"Or else what?" He asked immediately with a strength in his voice.

"He'll hurt me... badly then ever before. I cannot afford that. I am sorry." She looked up at him with tears in her eyes.

He only stares.

"I shall go now, I should not burden you with my sorrows. Goodnight Tom."

"What did he call me?" She knew what he meant.

"A filthy Muggle." She said before taking off.

Leaving Tom to sit with his growing thoughts.
