Sela
15 yearsThe headmaster Dippet had offered the position of Prefect to her, though she politely declined, mentioning that she had too much to focus on, instead she recommended Louisa to take her place saying that besides her, Louisa was also best at all subjects. He seems to have taken in her words since Louisa came scurrying to her at the beginning of the year that she had been appointed Prefect. So was Tom. Riddle.
Why would he reject a position of power?
"You know, I tried talking to him multiple times during our watch hour but he would always barely say a word. They all say he's charming. But are they mad? They find silence? Charming?" Louisa utters.
She found it bizarre. Why would he not speak with her friend, when all he did here was charm everyone with his words. Is it because Louisa is one of her closest friends? Does he not want to give Louisa the wrong idea?
Is he afraid that he might slip up?
"People are weird Lou, who knows, by Seventh year, you would be head over heels for him too." She gave Sela a playful back slap.
"That's not who I want, Sela. I want someone who is actually charming. Someone who talks. Someone who is Romantic. Someone who expresses affirmation with his words." She poetically spoke as her eyes drifted over to Carlton, standing there in his quidditch attire holding a broomstick while talking to his mates."Keep your eyes on him for a moment longer and you might drool." Sela smirks.
"I really wish we were more than friends."
"Then you better act on those feelings before he slips away."
"He should approach me first."
"Mhm."
"No really!"--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was dusk when Sela slipped out of her dormitory. It was also a privilege that she is not presented with a roommate, but a room all to herself. Peace and quiet. She had looked left and right as she slips pass the corridors, with the intention of going into the dark forest. Everyone were afraid of it. People are also warned away. But with her three years of continuously slipping into that darkness. Nothing but joy and happiness was brought to her. Yes, not everything in the forest were good, but the forest has it's protectors. The Centaurs.
They all had gotten used to her presence. At first they were incredibly wary of her. later they found out that she had no bad intentions. If anything what she does every night there, has brought nothing but benefits to the creatures of the forest.
"Going somewhere, Ms Varton?" Dumbledore called to her.
"Umm, I was just-"
"No need for excuses. Before you continue on with your journey, we shall have a cup of tea first." And so he began to walk to his office.
Sela had no choice but to follow him, questioning his intentions.Dumbledore settled a book on the table before he began to flip some pages.
"I have had some pleasant conversations with the Centaurs."
Sela widened her eyes as the professor chuckles.
"Points will not be taken from your house." He lifts his hand.
Dumbledore had gotten the page that he wanted before showing it to her.
"You, are a so called grounding witch. There had only been one before you, and that was your ancestor, Diana Varton. If more were present in the wizarding world, it had not been recorded."
"Professor, I do not know what it is you speak off. Will you be kind as to elaborate?" She asked but did not look up from the pages below.
"A grounding witch is the most powerful witch of all. They do not need wands, to convey their strength. They only need their mind and the pattern of their fingers." That answered her confusion with realisation.
"You are connected to nature aren't you, Ms Varton?"
"I find it brilliantly adoring."
"Then I have no more doubt that you are one."
"Do what is needed to be done, according to you, but do not slip yourself over to the wrong side." Dumbledore says with a hand on her shoulder.
"I have no intention to do so, professor." She answered him with laced truth.
"Very well then. Nature awaits your presence."
She bid her farewell and continued on her path.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Later than usual Sela Varton."
"A long bearded man that you happen to conversed with had stopped me in my tracks."
"Ah, Dumbledore was it?"
"Yes, thank you by the way, for giving away our secret."
"The long bearded man is trustworthy, no worries."
"But you still broke my trust, Warris."
"For that, I apologise. It will never happen again." He put a hand on his chest.
Sela nods in acknowledgement.
She sat on the ground and closed her eyes before moving her upper body in circles while moving her fingers on the dead grass below. A grounding witch. That is what she is.
Golden lights appears out of her fingers as it forms a circle around her. She had awakened the dead grass beneath her form and a couple of small trees.
Warris watches in awe at her glorious ability.
She now knows she is beyond powerful.
And she has no intention of turning evil.
