The next morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow over the hotel room. Florence stirred awake, momentarily disoriented, before remembering where she was. As she turned to see Lando still asleep, his expression peaceful and relaxed, she realised with a blush they had spent the night holding hands.
She allowed herself a moment to admire him, feeling a strange sense of contentment. Trying to shake off the sudden rush of feelings, Florence slipped out of bed and padded quietly to the bathroom for a quick shower and to freshen up. She closed the door gently behind her, leaning against it for a moment to collect her thoughts. She couldn't deny the growing attraction she felt for Lando, but the past had taught her to be cautious.
When she emerged, Lando was awake, stretching languidly. He flashed her a sleepy smile, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Morning, Fleur. Sleep well?"
"Like a log," she replied with a chuckle. "How about you?"
"Best sleep I've had in a while," he said, his tone sincere. "Ready for the big day?"
"Yea I'm so excited!"
After breakfast with the family, where more warmth and laughter were shared, they found themselves with a few hours to kill before the wedding ceremony. They decided to take a walk around the picturesque countryside, enjoying the fresh air and each other's company.
As they strolled along a charming path lined with blooming flowers, Florence couldn't help but feel a sense of peace. She glanced at Lando, who seemed deep in thought.
"Penny for your thoughts?" she asked, nudging him playfully.
Lando smiled, his gaze softening. "Just thinking about how much has changed over the past few months. It's nice to have someone to share these moments with."
Florence felt a flutter in her chest at his words. "Yeah, it is. I'm glad you asked me to come."
"Me too," Lando said, his voice gentle.
"I've been having this strange feeling, as if I was just meant to be here, working at McLaren, as if no matter what choices I made they would lead me here. Like even if I hadn't got the job on my own Mateo had said if he'd known I was searching he would've put in a word for me."
"So, how do you know Mateo?" Lando asked casually, trying to mask his curiosity.
Florence laughed, seeing through his attempt to downplay his interest. "Mateo and I used to work together a couple years ago. He was always the life of the party, which made our dull office life bearable."
Lando chuckled. "Sounds like him. He's a great guy." He tried to sound casual but Florence easily picked up the tinge of jealousy in his reply.
Florence's eyes twinkled. "I actually think he'd make a great couple with my friend Piper, they've got the same energy."
"Really?" Lando's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "That's the friend you've told em so much about isn't it? They might actually be perfect for each other."
They walked in companionable silence for a few moments before Lando spoke again. "What about you? Any plans to set yourself up with anyone?"
Florence laughed. "Not really. I've been enjoying my freedom. Besides, with our crazy schedules, who has time for dating?"
"Fair point," Lando admitted. "But it's not all bad. I've got some good friends on the circuit. Carlos, Max, Daniel and Charles – they're like family."
