The Snake's whisper

"Premonitions? Premonitions. Hmm," Horizonstar growled, curling his ragged tail around leathery paws.

A faint beam of light shone through the mossy den of the leader, illuminating the frown on Skyfire's face.

He still couldn't get the horrifying vision of Heathersun's death out of his mind; he'd promised he'd never lose another loved one... not since Mistymoor, and especially not since Tawnyrain...

To be honest, he wasn't sure if asking Horizonstar for advice was the right idea. Sure, he knew a bunch of stuff, but none that was useful for tips on 'how to save your mate.'

Horizonstar was intelligent and wise in the Force, but of relationships and daily life?

Definitely not.

Not when the old leader thought loving and caring for somebody made them selfish.

"These visions you have-"

"They're of pain, suffering," Skyfire kept his tone even, choosing his words carefully; one false move and everything would shatter to pieces.

"Death."

Horizonstar stared at him, and he shifted his paws, lowering his gaze. The leader's piercing look made him feel like his secrets were out for the world to see.

Brambles coiled around his subconscious, blocking out any thoughts that the leader might sense.

Horizonstar was silent for a while, a haunted look flashing briefly in his eyes.

"Yourself, you speak of, or someone you know?"

Right now, Skyfire wanted to turn tail and flee into the darkest hole, where he couldn't be found. Talking to the leader and asking him for advice should have helped him, yet instead, he felt cornered.

"Someone." he mewed at last, an image of Heathersun flashing inside his mind.

Horizonstar eyed him suspiciously for a moment.

"Close to you?" the leader asked.

"Yes."

"Careful you must be, when sensing the future, Skyfire." Horizonstar sighed. "The fear of loss is a path to the Dark Side."

Faint pictures of unknown cats flickered toward the surface of the elder's thoughts, then disappeared in a tide of rippling water.

'Fallen knights?' Skyfire tried to reach his leader's mind, but was met with a clear pool of mist blocking out intruders.

'Did they have the same issues as me?' he wondered as Horizonstar groomed a forepaw with short, brisk licks.

"I won't let those visions come true, Master." Skyfire meowed, making the leader stare at him uncannily once more.

"Death is a natural part of life," Horizonstar said simply. "Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force."

"Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not."

'No... Heathersun's predicted death is not to be rejoiced!!!' Skyfire wanted to scream at the leader. 'What do you think I am, a psychopath?'

"Attachment leads to jealousy." Horizonstar kept on talking in a flat tone, unaware of Skyfire bristling.

"The shadow of greed, that is."

'Is wanting anybody to love a sin?'

'Are you saying that loving Tawnyrain, Hazeldusk, Heathersun, and Mistymoor make me greedy?'
