Thunder rumbled in the distance, and lightning flashed above as rain began to fall, washing over the blood and fire that scorched the universe.
Hazeldusk barely felt the wetness and cold of the harsh weather; actually, he couldn't feel anything at all, for the shock of Skyfire's betrayal shook him to the core.
"Master Hazeldusk, we need to find shelter, and fast!" Farsight twittered, making him snap out of his trance.
"I was thinking we should go to Alderclan, which isn't far from here."
"Huh? Oh, yes, right..." Hazeldusk glanced at Heathersun's motionless body, resting his tail on her flank when he saw the she-cat shiver.
"Master, but I sense somebody is missing," the falcon chirruped worryingly. "I can't see Master Skyfire."
Hazeldusk was thankful for the rain for once, at least Farsight couldn't see him crying.
"Skyfire is dead," he forced to keep his voice steady.
"He died in the flames of Mustafar."
Nightstar saw them coming, he was kind enough to provide them with a safe shelter, on the outskirts of his clan, where they would be safe from the searching eyes of the Clones.
"Contact me if you need anything." the black tom meowed solemnly before leaving.
"Thank you." Hazeldusk meowed, hoisting Heathersun's limp body on his back, limping to a soft den lined with moss and feathers.
The she-cat looked like a corpse among the moss, but at least she had no serious wounds.
Hazeldusk collapsed to the ground, exhausted.
'Starclan, just kill me now... I have nothing else to live for...'
"Hazel."
A familiar presence, along with a soft tail resting on his flank, made him look up wearily.
"M-Master Sagepelt?"
Starlight glittered on the ghostly knight's long, wavy fur, and a look of remorse crossed his eyes as he stared down at his former apprentice.
Hazeldusk didn't know whether to feel furious or delighted; let's just say it was a mixture of both.
"All those years, I've called out for your guidance." his voice was a mere whisper.
"And this is the time you choose to speak to me?"
"When everything is lost?" Hazeldusk stared at the Starclan cat with tears brimming in his eyes.
"Hazel..."
"I...I don't know what to do anymore... I mean, Dawnclan is in ruins, and Lightningstrike taking over the Galaxy, not to mention that..."
"Oh, forget it." Hazeldusk looked away, curling his tail over his nose.
"Hazel, I'm so sorry." Sagepelt sat next to him, rasping at his bleeding forehead gently.
"I brought you so much pain, didn't I?"
As much as he was disappointed and angry at his former master, Hazeldusk found himself wishing he would stay by his side, maybe even forever.
He felt like he was a kitten again, nestled in Sagepelt's warm fur, as he would murmur comforting words that made the nightmares go away.
But this was a nightmare that he would never wake up from.
