In a marsh landed the pod of Dr. Hofnarr. He held himself there for hours after an encounter with some inhabitants of the marsh. There was something wrong with him after the encounter. He pulled out his tablet and made a video log, “Hello. This is Dr. William Hofnarr. I have arrived on Planet 1-O9A57 but not in an ideal manner. I arrived in this marsh thinking that the only life we’d find if any would be single celled organisms. I was wrong. I was attacked by these insectoid creatures. They were roughly the size of a Human toddler. They had gray carapaces, long hind legs similar to grasshoppers, and two large crests on their head areas. They had an elytra similar to beetles that contained wings. And in their mandibles was this filthy green liquid. I was bitten by one of them and I have given them the species name, Venomhopper. This is Dr. Hofnarr signing off.”
After he signed off he noticed that where his hand had been bitten by a Venomhopper had started growing pustules. The pustules had started growing up his arm and onto his torso quickly spreading. This was the secret weapon of Venomhoppers. The reason why they had green liquid frothing in their mandibles. The thing spreading across Dr. Hofnarr was a virus. One administered only by Venomhoppers. Hofnarr looked through his notes and realized that this virus matches the same description as the symptoms a test subject for a primordial space virus had. That virus was labeled the V-Virus.
Hofnarr then thought, “Could it be possible that long ago the V-Virus arrived on an ancient Alarian marsh and these bugs incorporated it into their bite through the course of millions of years worth of evolution.” After he came to this hypothesis, the pustules once again spread. They were now covering his entire torso.
He took a sample of blood from an infected part of his body and started trying to synthesize a cure. But, there was a problem. From outside the pod another denizen of the marsh had detected the pod and did not take kindly to it. As far as it knew, the lifepod of Hofnarr was a foreign creature intruding on its marsh.
The beast was crocodilian in appearance. The only real differences were that its scales were blood red. Its limbs were longer. Especially on the front. It had hundreds of teeth. It had two larger teeth protruding through the side of its head on each side. And, it had immunity to the V-Virus.
It approached the lifepod and started ripping it to pieces. Hofnarr reached for the sample and picked it up. But, the commotion caused by the Crocodilian caused him to drop it. And so after he saw the reptilian he took his tablet and received a message of the creatures name. The Sanguine Crocodile.
The pustules were spreading, the V-Virus killing him, and the Sanguine Crocodile tearing through the pod. Before the Sanguine Crocodile could reach him he passed away. His body was no longer capable of surviving the V-Virus. The Sanguine Crocodile finally reached Hofnarr, or what was Hofnarr, and swallowed him in one bite. The doctor was unable to stop the devilish sickness from taking his life.
