Tony
I quickly put Leo on the couch, neglecting his crying for that period. He cried harder as I ran upstairs to get my car keys. I can't possibly allow anything to happen to my daughter.
I ran back downstairs and carried both of them and rushed through the door that lead to the front porch. I hurriedly walked to the driveway, my heart racing more than ever.
I put them both on the back seat and buckled Leo on the baby seat, already attached to the seat. I put his pacifier in his mouth, hoping he would calm down. It worked! One down, one to go.
I stepped on the accelerator like I never have. I was on my way to Prestige Hospital. I hoped Rose was there.
When we got there, the nurses took Luna to the Paediatric Emergency Department and they didn't let me in. They told me they will attend to her, and I shouldn't worry.
I went back to the car to carry Leo. He was already asleep. I carefully unbuckled the baby seat and carried him, unintentionally waking him up. He cried as I walked back to the hospital as I sushed him with slight anger. I was getting sick of this baby drama.
I went inside the hospital and sat on the waiting room chair, Leo still crying. It was getting really frustrating. "Shut it, now!" I screamed at him, which increased his crying.
"Let me help you with him", I heard a voice saying as I looked up at the source. A young lady was standing in front of me, with a warm smile.
"I've got this, thanks" I said, a bit embarrassed.
"No you don't!" She said as she carried him from me. "You don't shout at a child and expect him to stop crying" she told me as she held Leo with his chin on her shoulders and then shook him gently. That made him quiet.
"You work here right? I asked her.
"Yes" she responded.
"Umm, could you hold on to him for a little while longer? I asked, hoping for a positive response.
"Sure thing! You know, I'm actually a paediatric nurse here, so taking care of him wouldn't be a problem".
"Ohh thank you miss... Beatrice" I said as I glanced at her name tag.
She smiled and walked away with Leo in her arms. She walked into door directly opposite the receptionist's desk, I'm sure that's her office, because it had her name on the nameplate.
I'm not supposed to trust a stranger with my son, but I didn't have another choice at the moment.
Since Luna is being attended to, and Leo was with nurse Beatrice, I had time to see Rose.
