POV Sonic

The days inched closer, there was now only a few days left until we leave, and 2 more days until the SAT's. This test determines my entire future, I need to pass, I need to be enough.

I walked about the same time Shadow would go to school but I still didn't see him. I shrugged it off thinking he might be late, or he was already there. When I arrived at school, I walked inside and saw the hallways crowded with people as usual. No sight of Shadow, but I see my friends.

A smile forms and deepens on my muzzle. It feels nice to see them, they gave me a warm smile back. Rouge winked and smirked like she does to everyone, Knuckles dapped me up while Amy pulled me in for one of her warm hugs. My happiness faded once I remembered that I haven't told them that I like Shadow. They deserve to know, I don't know why I can't tell them.

"Sonic, we need all the help we can find for organizing our prom, can we count on you to help out after school?" Amy asked me with Rouge by her side. Rouge played with Knuckles's quills, that was a first. "I have work but I could go for two hours after school." They smiled and nodded. Prom was next Saturday and everyone was going bonkers about it. Seriously they were talking about prom more than complaining about Finals, and I swear, complaining about tests is a world-wide thing.

Then Rouge butted in. "I'm going to have a special prom after party, will you be there hun?" I nodded, prom planning huh? This is great, I really need the distractions...

The first bell, to warn us there was one more minute to get to class, rang and drifted me and my friends apart. Today was an A Day, so I don't have statistics. Yay! I have speech, a college class, but easier than statistics. The only friend I have in that class is Silver so I found him in the halls and we walked together.

"What's between you and Shadow?" My eyes widened, well at least he called him by his name. "What? What do you mean?" Silvs rose a brow. "Why'd you react that way?" I kinda froze as I took a side glance at his expression. A slight smirk formed on his muzzle but I couldn't tell.

"Sonic we have speech class, they literally teach us how to read non-verbal gestures." I rolled my eyes with a smile. "Nothing man, just the way you phrased it, sounded weird." I gave him a smirk as he laughed.

It took me until lunch time to realize Shadow was nowhere to be found, he was absent. But he was never absent, he told me once that he hasn't missed a day since the first day. I started overthinking about what I said. Could've it been my fault?

I endlessly looked around, trying to find those black and red striped quills. I was holding on to some hope that he'll be leaning against that pillar. I felt a tap on my shoulder, it was Knux I turned around, a little surprised. "Today is the last dayyyy. Oh and I need proof!" I rolled my eyes as I turned to him crossing my arms. We made our way to see what the lunch ladies were serving since we came early enough to see, but they didn't have good food today. "I heard Ames has been crushing on you."
...
WHAT.

I turn to Knuckles with a blunt and blank expression. I've been aware that Amy has a thing for me but I never wanted to actually hear it.

"What dude?" Knuckles asked me as he faintly chuckled. "Don't say that man. You know I don't like her back!" I hissed, he smirked. "Oh c'mon, give her a chance." He rolled his eyes as he disregarded my words. "Whose side are you on!? Did she tell you to do this?" I questioned, I knew Amy liked me, and for a while I liked her back. But she was clingy and had way different goals than mine, I couldn't actually bring myself to love her, I just never felt it. She wanted commitment and I wasn't ready for that yet.
