"Hello Mr. McLean" Melanie said pushing her way through the group and into the classroom.
"Hello Ms Pelly" Mr. McLean said unenthusiastically.
"Hello Sir?" a voice piped up from the back. It was Binky, he waved at Melanie sheepishly.
"No not you Binky" Mr. McLean said. He turned the group of year eights "and what can I do for you."
"Chairs, we need ten chairs" Friday bluntly responded. Mr Mclean raised an eyebrow.
"So can we please take some" Ian asked with his most charming smile, trying to cover up Friday's impoliteness.
"I don't know can you" Mr Mclean chuckled. All the year eights groaned.
"He isn't even an English teacher" Melanie whispered.
"When Ian was using the word "can" he was using its secondary model form as a verbal modifier asking for permission, as opposed to expressing ability. Obviously, he thought since you're a teacher you should know that" Friday retorted. Mr Mclean said nothing, but the whole year twelve class stood up offering her their chairs.
"Listen, you can't just give them your chairs. Where will you sit for the rest of the lesson." Mr Mclean protested.
"Oh, it's ok sir we weren't going to listen to you any way." Binky sad piling four chairs in a row and handing them to Ian who almost fell over from the weight of them.
