THE first part of the final exam was here. The minimum overall score each pair needed to pass was 692 points, which was lower than expected, but we couldn't afford to be careless. The first day covered four subjects: social studies, English, Japanese, and mathematics. That meant that the outcome of Horikita and Kushida's battle would be revealed very soon.

As I walked into the hall on my way to the classroom, I saw Mori who was looking at me. Even though she dislikes me, we still needed to work together at least for this exam. Our conversations have been...stale. I'm not really blaming her; she dislikes me and we only talking about studying.

I decided to ignore her and went to my seat. I sat down and saw Ayanokouji and Horikita talking.

"...neither you nor I nor Shinjiro will disappear, either." I heard Horikita say.

"The look on your face says that you're going to win no matter what." Ayanokouji replied.

"Of course. That's because I prepared to take first place in our grade this time around," she replied.

"If the questions Class C set turn out to be really simple, that's going to be tricky."

"Even so, I'll win. That'll only motivate me more," she replied.

"Use that motivation well." Ayanokouji advised. I heard a notification and saw he is taking out his phone. He began fiddling with it before looking at Chabashira and did a thumbs down. She nodded and looked out elsewhere.

"What was that about?" Horikita asked.

"Nothing important."

Soon, the bell rang, signaling the test was about to start. Everyone started to pack up their study materials. We had to store any and all objects unnecessary for the exam in the lockers at the back of the classroom. The only things we were allowed to have were writing utensils. If our pencils broke, we ran out of lead, or we used our erasers up, we had to request additional supplies from Chabashira-sensei. Simple rules, logical rules.

"We will now start your final exam. Your first test subject is contemporary Japanese. You are forbidden from turning your papers over before I give you the signal to begin," said Chabashira-sensei.

Rather than have the students at the front of each row pass the test papers back, Chabashira-sensei placed the papers on each student's desk herself. She was closely observing Ayanokouji as well as some other specific students such as Horikita and Satou.

"The exam will be fifty minutes long. Please try to avoid leaving sick or using the restroom. In the event that you aren't able to wait, please raise your hand and let me know. You won't be allowed to leave the room during the exam for any other reason," she continued.

Chabashira-sensei finished handing out test papers. Not a single student was talking by this point. Everyone focused on their papers. Shortly afterward, the next bell rang, signaling the official start of the exam.

"Begin."

We all flipped our test sheets over at the same time.

I quickly skimmed the questions from start to finish in order to see the difficulty. It was certainly a line-up, but these were easy.

Moreover, the school had altered several test questions significantly. I could see traces of where Class C had attempted to trick us, but the school had made edits.

Horikita immediately picked up her pen and began her first question. I've completed the first question and went on to the next.

I was curious whether or not anything changed with Class C's questions, so I looked over to Kushida. Ayanokouji by coincidence, did the same thing.
