Violet
~ ~ ~

I stare at the brown eyes that I thought I once knew.

I see them differently now.

Immature. Dull. Ordinary.

Most important, not filled with love. There's no love when they look at me.

Over these past two weeks, I've gotten to know what that looks like.

"You don't think I know where you go every day, Violet?" Carter asks, his voice threatening.

"Where?" I say sarcastically, standing my ground.

He clenches his jaw. His eyes trail down to the scar on my chest that's not hidden with makeup.

"What has he told you?" He scoffs, disbelieving his own eyes. "That your scar is beautiful? That you should fucking show it off?"

I bend my fingers into a fist. "You have no business in knowing what he has told me."

His eyes flash with rage, filling them with that emotion to the brim. He walks close to my face, forcing me to back up against the wall.

"You're fucking brainwashed. You're a fucking whore for him," he scoffs, putting his hand against the wall right next to my head. "Don't worry. Your stupid friend isn't going to be here for much longer," his lips ease up into a wicked smile.

My heart is in my throat. "What are you talking about?" I mumble.

"Truth serum didn't fucking work. Didn't give us answers anyway," he narrows his eyes, tilting his head. "So we're killing him in the next couple of days, then invading the columns. Should've done that in the first place, don't you think?"

My heartbeat is erratic. My thoughts are spinning everywhere in my brain, making me feel lightheaded.

No. He can't.

"You can't," I gasp out, wanting to do anything to convince him.

"Yeah? What are you going to do?" His smile drops, leaving a harsh glare as he stares at me.

"Please, Carter. You can't. Please," I beg, feeling tears glaze my eyes at the thought of losing Mason.

"Say bye to him while you can," he says coldly before pulling away.

He walks out of the room, leaving me alone.

I can't seem to find my head as I run as fast I can to the underground.
