They talked on the way
Sarah: So, how did you feel on your first day?
Daniel: It wasn't too bad.
Miyuki: Learning will actually be the hardest part, because what the teachers teach us, they are not the best at teaching us the doctrines.
Sarah: I believe you; you guys have a lot of ambition.
Daniel: You don't?
Sarah: Of course, I do. Although I'm not the best at learning.
Miyuki: By the way, how come you go to this school? I mean, financially, could you afford to go to a better school.
Sarah: Part of the reason I'm here is because of you, but also because my mother went to high school here as well.
They arrived back at the accommodation. Tracker immediately called Daniel to him. Miyuki and Sarah also went.
Tracker: How was your first day?
Miyuki: Apart from Daniel getting in a fight...
Daniel: I defended someone!
Miyuki: I would say that everything was good.
Daniel: Well, yeah.
Tracker: Excellent. Then we can start your special training.
Daniel: Wait a sec! Special training, for me?
Tracker: You must learn to control your Second Phase!
Daniel: What if I just don't use it at all?
Tracker: Daniel...you never know when you might use it. You could defeat Aarne with it.
Daniel: I think I'm beginning to understand what it means to be Phase Eyes. Gosh fine, let's do it.
Tracker: I'll tell you the training process, we'll lock you in a room where you have to call up the Second Phase, which you can call up, but you can't control it. Your body and most importantly your mind needs to be strengthened.
Daniel: And how long will I have to do that?
Tracker: Until you learn to control it.
Daniel: Soothing *Sarcasm*.
Daniel spoke after some thought:
Daniel: I have to do it! Only then can we defeat Aarne and maybe the monsters for good.
Tracker: I like your attitude already!
Sarah: Excuse me, Mr. Tracker. Won't this be dangerous?
Tracker: If things get too out of hand, we can put him to sleep with sleeping gases, but they'll be hard walls, so it shouldn't be a big problem.
Sarah: That's a relief.
Tracker led Daniel to the room, where he entered and, on Tracker's instructions, called up the Second Phase. As expected, he could not yet control it. He became hyperactive and tried to escape from the room. He was not acting human at all. This went on until he was exhausted, at which point he switched back to the First Phase and Daniel regained consciousness.
Tracker: Did you remember the last 10 minutes?
Daniel: Not really.
Tracker: You still need a lot of practice. You can only summon Second Phase about three times a day, and then you'd pass out. So we're going to try twice more today, and we're going to keep doing it until you can control it. Understood?
Daniel: Absolutely!
The other two were similar to the first. And from that day on, after school, we had to practice every day for Second Phase. And every day he could produce similar results.
