— 𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 first date Layla could honestly ever ask for, she helped Warren back up everything and then tilted her head."How are you gonna get the cooler home on the bike?" She asked curiously.
Warren shook his head. "I'm not. I came up here earlier in the truck with the cooler and the lawn mower. I was gonna come back with the truck and grab the cooler after I dropped you off." He explained.
Layla pouted. "I wanna come back with you to grab the cooler. Please?" She clasped her hands in front of her pleadingly.
Warren pretended to sigh tiredly as he crossed his arms. "Well, I guess I can bring you back with me."
Layla clapped her hands and did a little victory dance before pressing up on her toes and wrapping her arms around his neck, giving him a big kiss.
Warren placed his hands on her waist and squeezed her sides softly as he kissed her back, the kiss that was initially meant to be quick turning into a slow make-out.
Layla pushed her hand through his hair — which Layla had taken out during their picnic so she could play with the strands as he laid his head on her lap — and gently tugged as they continued to kiss.
Warren pulled her closer into his chest, one hand cupping the nape of her neck and holding her in place so he could keep exploring her mouth, the other one traveling down to rest on her lower back, caressing it with his thumb.
When they finally pulled apart to catch their breath, they smiled at each other; Layla admiring the way Warren's hair was all mussed up from her hand and him once again admiring the way he managed to make her lips look all kiss stung.
They then made their way back to the bike, leaving the cooler and refolded blanket behind to come retrieve later.
The perfect end to the perfect date.
— 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 Layla got back to the Peace residence — Layla pouting because Winona was at work and therefore unable to have a quick chat, she followed the pyrokinetic into the garage to grab the truck, pouting all the while.
Warren shook his head in amusement as he opened the passenger door for her.
"I swear you like my mother more than me."
Layla smiled. "At least this saves us an awkward conversation later on."
Warren looked at her with a deadpan expression and lightly pinched her waist, smirking when as usual — she let out a yelp.
The pout that had made a comeback at Warren's action immediately disappeared as she felt Warren rub her waist in a silent apology.
"Serves you right, little menace."
Layla only giggled as she got into the truck and buckled up while Warren made his way around to the driver's side.
In a matter of seconds, they were on the road once more.
— 𝐀𝐒 𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐋𝐀 𝐀𝐍𝐃 Warren walked back into the clearing, arguing about why he wouldn't let her carry the cooler, she felt herself get distracted by the beauty of the clearing once more.
Layla looked over at Warren and smiled. "You know, you'll never have to drag the lawn mower back here again. Now I can just keep this place pretty when we come to visit."
Warren smiled and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Oh, the perks of having a plant whisperer girlfriend."
She laughed lightly and smacked at his chest, before resting her head over his heart.
"Hey, why didn't you just pick me up in the truck in the first place? Could've saved us the drive and the gas." She suddenly said.
Warren looked down and smirked at her. "I like seeing you on my bike, it's hot. I couldn't resist. Worth every penny."
Layla rolled her eyes playfully. "You're such a man."
Warren laughed and kissed her head one more time before letting go of her and grabbing the cooler, handing her the blanket.
"Here, since you wanted to carry something so bad."
Layla narrowed her eyes in fake annoyance. "Okay, since you wanna be like that," She tossed the blanket back at him, secretly swooning when he easily caught it. "You can carry the blanket too."
He gasped dramatically, "Oh no, not the blanket. How will I ever cope?" He said dryly.
Layla scowled and snatched the blanket back, walking away from him and back towards the path in a huff, causing Warren to laugh loudly.
— 𝐀𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐕𝐄 back into town, Warren looked over at her for a moment and smiled.
"I already know what I wanna do for our second date."
Layla smiled, but then shook her head. "Well that's great, but make it our third. The next date is my turn."
"Your turn?" Warren raised a brow, his eyes focused on the road once more.
Layla simply nodded and hummed. "Yup, my turn. We'll go back and forth for dates to make it fair."
Warren tilted his head, feeling a warmth pass through him and settle. "I like that."
He then took one hand off the steering wheel and laid it on the middle console, holding his hand out expectantly for Layla to place her hand in it.
She blushed softly and obeyed his silent request, her cheeks reddening further as he pulled their joint hands up to his face so he could kiss the back of hers before resting it on the console once more.
Layla used her other hand to turn on the radio and they spent the rest of the drive back into town with the radio quietly playing background music so as not to disrupt their soft chatter.
At one bout of silence, Layla allowed herself to just admire Warren as he drove, his eyes never leaving the road.
He looked so handsome when he was focused, and the fact that he hadn't let go of her hand once yet, made her heart flutter and the butterflies in her stomach do all sorts of twists and flips.
She was genuinely so lucky to have such a wonderful man as her boyfriend, and she knew she was never going to let him go.
