— 𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍 𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 school after the most amazing weekend ever, Layla and Warren continued on with their usual school day routine. Now that the slut shaming had fully died down thanks to Warren, it was pretty much just a normal day.
Magenta had freaked in first period when Layla had told her she and Warren were official now, and they'd almost gotten in trouble for being loud and disrupting the class — only being saved by the fact that the teacher liked the two girls.
By the time lunch came around, Layla was excited to see Warren.
She couldn't help but recall his words about them being 'that annoying couple,' but she found that she well and truly could not care any less.
For the sake of their friend group, she would refrain from being too lovey-dovey during lunch, but once she and Warren got to their spot under the tree — all bets were off.
Lunch went by pretty normally, the both of them occasionally jumping into the conversation amongst the rest of the group, but mainly keeping to themselves.
Will was doing much better with his dwindling feelings for Layla, and while he was still a little in love with her — he was also starting to notice other girls again, so he took it as progress.
Due to that, he was talking to Layla much more now, and although they would never regain that closeness they once had — one; out of respect for Warren and Will's future partner, and two; because despite still being in their first year of high school, Layla and Will had both changed enough to recognize that while they would always be friends, best friends was a just bit of a stretch now.
But that was okay, life happens, and it wasn't like they were ending their friendship entirely so it wasn't anything to stress over.
Will looked between Layla and Warren and smiled. "You guys doing anything this weekend? If not, you should come over to my house. We're having a movie night."
Warren and Layla shared a look, Barron's trial immediately coming to mind.
Layla was the first to look back at Will and smiled apologetically. "Sorry, Will — but we can't make it this weekend. We have a date on Saturday and then dinner at Warren's." She said smoothly, feeling only a twinge of guilt for lying to her friend.
Will just shook his head and waved his hand. "Ah, it's no problem, I get it. Hope you two have fun. Next time for sure, though."
Layla nodded and smiled when she felt Warren squeeze her hand gently from where he was holding it beneath the table.
