CHAPTER 5: BOND BY BLOOD

"Oh no... holy shit...."
Emma's heart starts beating rapidly and her breath starts to rapid as well. She couldn't believe her eyes. Her eyes widened and she started to sweat. She continued to look at Jason and started talking to herself in her mind "Oh no, it's him... it's him... I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Jason, Jason, c'mon look at me, look at your big sis"
But Avi doesn't see anything. He continued to stare at Emma "hey? What is it?"
"Don't... don't talk." Emma swallows hard, trying to keep her voice from breaking as she watches Jason's figure get closer and closer to the car. She can feel her heart beating in her chest, and every breath that passes through her lungs feels like a stab in the chest. Even if it's just an illusion, the feeling is overwhelming for her and unlocks the door to get outside.
Avi continued to look at Emma as he didn't see anyone. He looks at Emma's condition and gets concerned. "Hey? What are you doing? What if the monsters come?"
"I said not to talk!" She snaps with enough desperation to make Avi want to shut up again.
Avi gets scared by Emma's loud yell and backs up on the car door.
Avi: "what are you doing? Don't go! PLEASE!"
Emma takes a deep sigh and her sigh is heavy with frustration and anger, but she's starting to get back control over her emotions. "Stay here, and do not touch the car's doors, windows, or me. Just... Stay there."
Emma gets out of the car, and walks towards that eerie figure of Jason standing silently by the car. Each step feels heavier and more exhausting, and she can feel a shiver running down her spine as she steps into the moonlight. But she has to do this.

Jason's figure doesn't move, doesn't make a sound, it just waits and watches as she approaches. Emma reaches the figure, and stares up into its face, her body still trembling. The face isn't unfamiliar, but it doesn't feel real. Then suddenly, Jason's figure starts turning into one of those monsters and his little face is eaten.

A sharp, stabbing pain sears across her chest, and she can feel a burning sensation in the back of her head. She fights to make sense of what she's seeing-- is this really what I think it is? Her heartbeat quickens as she stares at that figure, a strange, sickeningly twisted mix of the worst parts of his memory and the person who has haunted her dreams for all this time Her throat starts to tighten, and she feels a sudden, overwhelming panic welling up inside of her.
Jason's figure then groans and grunts just like one of those monsters.

Emma stares back at Jason's monstrous figure and the sound of Jason's monstrous groan and grunts is like an icy knife, slicing her heart in pieces. She feels it.

Jason's figure keeps staring at Emma and keeps grunting. Those dead eyes of him pierced right through her. This was all suffocating for Emma and the heartbeat keeps on beating, pounding in her ears, filling her whole being with fear and sorrow.
Her mind won't let her move, won't let her think nothing else exists anymore, nothing but the thundering in her ears, suffocating darkness, and the burning in her chest. She can't breathe, the weight of his presence is like an anchor, holding her in place.

She watches as Jason's figure turns around and walks away from her, his little head tilting and swaying as he leaves her alone in the cold, bleak emptiness of the night. She tries to call out for him, to stop him from leaving, but her voice freezes in her throat.

But then, She hears Avi's screams. Her mind gets back into consciousness and she realises it was nothing but her imagination. She turns around quickly as she hears Avi's scream but as soon as she does, her heart skips a beat as then, a monster, not very far from eating her neck, jumps on her and gets her to ground, trying to eat her.
Thanks to her reflexes that she refined in her military days, she was able to grab the monster's neck and keep it away
Emma kicks the walker off of her and runs towards the car. "Shut up!" She yells to Avi who was screaming. The monster gets up and just when Emma was about to close the door, the monster sticks his dead head between the door, trying to eat them. Avi screams in fear and Emma's eyes widens, she tries her best to push the door towards her so that the monster won't be able to get it. Emma reaches for her pistol, but it isn't there! She looks back to see her gun has fallen between the seats of the car. She doesn't have the time to reach for it as the monster's head is slipping inside the car thanks to the blood on it. Emma looks at Avi
"Hey! Pass me the gun"
But Avi doesn't seem to listen, he just continues to scream and cry.
Emma's frustration reaches it's peak
"Ugh! Shut up, you idiot!"
She opens the door slightly to kick the monster so that it'd fall away, but the monster grabs the side of the door, pushing itself in.
Emma sees this and gets a bit more Panic. She leaves the door and lays back and keeps the monster away by pushing it away by her feet. She looks at Avi and puts her hand on his mouth, shutting him up and yells at him
"SHUT THE HELL UP!"
She grunts and pushes the monster a few steps away from the car. She quickly gets up, grabs the car keys and then, swiftly, stabs the monster's head with it. Killing it.

Emma turns around, Avi still crying and bawling his eyes out while trembling. She looks at the dead monster while panting. She gets in the car and inserts the keys. She slams the door shut and stares at Avi.
"Shut up! You're not hurt or dead. You've made it clear that you're useless. Shut up and don't make things more difficult for me"

Avi looks down, sniffling and speaks in a shaking voice
"S... s... sorry. I.. I.. I was scared... A... and-"
"Yea I could see that"
Emma cuts him off mid sentence. She sighs and speaks in a calmer tone
"It's alright, I get it. But... I don't wanna die either, you know"
Avi nods and looks down, not saying anything anymore. Emma looks at Avi and her expression softens. She sighs and starts the engine and starts driving away

This goes on a while and after about a long time of silence, Avi looks at Emma and speaks in a hesitated tone
"Uhm... can... can I ask you something?"

Emma looks over at the little dude, and notices his hesitant look on his face, as if he's thinking if he should ask or not. She shrugs and waits, letting him take his time.
Avi looks at emma and speaks
"back at the airport.. when I was running away from monsters and was about to die... you saved Me... why?"

She sighs heavily, letting out a slow breath before answering, as she doesn't wanna reveal the truth to this kid. She's thought long about this question while keeping her eyes on the road, passing a couple of monsters. "I don't know. It just didn't feel right to leave you there. All alone. You're just this little kid, and that felt wrong to me."

Avi nods and looked down, with shame in his eyes
"thanks. I thought you were a kidnapper "

She sees the shame in the kid's eyes for assuming that she was a kidnapper and calling her one. She giggles a little and spoke in a soften voice
"I could understand that thought. But I would never kidnap a small child, that's just morally wrong, not something I'd ever do." She looks back at the little dude and nods, "and you know, I don't recall introducing myself to you. I'm Emma. And don't worry, you're safe."
Emma extends her hand towards Avi for a handshake.
Avi looks at Emma's rough hand and backs at Emma, who's smiling. He looks back at her and moves his little hand and shakes hands with her.
"I am Avi"
Emma giggles and nods with a sigh
"Yes, I know. Pleasure meeting you"
