"So, Major, what's our plan for the day?" Violet questions, while applying a light layer of foundation to her face.
"I have to head to Devil's Rose headquarters. And then, when you're ready at some point today, we need to go to Kai's old apartment."
When I get my hands on Kai fucking Madison, he's going to have no idea what's coming for him.
"Can I tag along with you? I don't have to work today. Gabby texted and gave me time off. When she saw us together, she clearly knew something was going on."
Her hazel eyes darken a little, her lips dropping into somewhat of a frown.
I step toward her and lay my hands on her biceps, staring into her eyes.
"I'm sorry that this is affecting so much of your life. I promise you will get it all back when we catch this guy."
She smiles up at me, resting a hand on my chest.
"I know you'll take care of it. I trust you."
A warmth fills my chest. I gaze at this woman in front of me, and I know that there's nothing that I wouldn't do for her. I will do everything that I can to make sure that she gets to live freely once again.
Some jerkoff shouldn't be forcing her to hide away or change her life because he hurt her. That's so fucking stupid. I know I shouldn't want to, and I also know that Alpha would be incredibly disappointed, but I want to kill him.
I want him to never see the light of day again. I want him to never be able to think about Violet or any other person he hurt again. He doesn't deserve that. He deserves to never live to see the next day. He doesn't deserve anything more than pain and death.
I feel a soft hand on the side of my face, and I take a deep breath.
"You will catch him, and you will make the right choice. Be able to live with yourself after this, Major. That's my piece of advice that you didn't ask for."
She's right. I know that getting vengeance on Kai won't change anything about what happened. His being dead won't solve anything. I just don't want him on the same earth as Violet. He shouldn't have that privilege.
Violet bursts through her bathroom door, shocking me out of my trance. I flicky my eyes up and down her body as I survey what she chose to wear. I run my tongue over my bottom lip, unable to help myself. My heart pounds in my chest while I stare.
It's a simple outfit, a white crop top and basic denim jeans, a cropped overcoat, and Converse, but it's enough to send my thoughts into places that they shouldn't be going. The messy bun on top of her head, her natural makeup, and the stunning grin on her face are just too much for me to handle.
No one should be allowed to look that fucking beautiful.
"You never answered my question," she points out as she walks by me, her vanilla scent floating behind her.
"The one about coming to headquarters?"
"Exactly."
"Yes, you can. I think we should stop and get coffee first though."
She nods her head enthusiastically, her smile widening.
Violet takes my hand in hers and pulls me out the front door of her apartment.
"Goodbye, Harper! Have a good day," she calls out to her roommate while I send Harper a quick wave.
"You too, lovebirds!"
The blush is extremely noticeable on Violet's face. It's so fucking adorable.
She starts walking toward her car, her keys twirling around her finger, but I pull in the direction of my car.
She has no reason to drive herself when I'm fully capable of taking her wherever she wants to go. Especially if we are both going to the same place. And it's not exactly environmentally friendly if we were to take two separate cars. That doesn't make sense either.
I click the unlock button of my car keys and open the passenger side door for Violet to hop in. She literally hops into the truck even though she really doesn't have to with the step that is there for the purpose of not having to do that, but she does it anyway.
She's got to keep life interesting I guess.
After buckling herself into the passenger seat, she plays around with the radio before landing on a station that she likes. The drive isn't very long, but Violet keeps repeating that the vibes need to be right, so I decide not to tease her about it anymore.
When we pull up in front of headquarters, I see that there are only a couple of Devil's Rose MC motorcycles here. Poison, Bullet, Carbon, and Slasher to be exact.
If we run into them, which we most likely will, that's going to be a funny interaction, I already know it. If Carbon is in the computer room then Violet's most likely going to be meeting the rest of the guys there as well.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. Maybe a little early to be meeting them, but we're here for other purposes and the guys know that. I just know Poison's going to make it a big deal in his goofy way.
"Is this where you are most of the time?" she questions as she gets out of my truck, using my hand and the step to get down.
"Yeah, for the most part. Here or my apartment which isn't too far from here."
I walk behind her, laying a guiding hand on the small of her back.
"What does your family think about all this?" she asks, waving her hands in the air to indicate Devil's Rose as a whole.
"My parents couldn't care less as long as I'm happy. My sister hasn't complained."
Violet chuckles, stepping through the main door of headquarters. Aurora and Sabrina, Carbon and Gabby's kids, run down the hallway, and it doesn't take me long to realize that they are acting like dinosaurs as they go.
Violet smiles after them and lets me continue to show her around the building before taking her into the computer room. Both Carbon and Bullet are in there, chatting about something that I can't decipher.
I see Poison carrying Aurora over his shoulder with Sabrina in a fireman's carry over Slasher's. Poison and Slasher set the girls down and they go barreling toward their dad, letting him smother them in kisses.
The four of them take in Violet's presence, trying to figure out why she's here. I introduce them, easing some of the confusion, and make sure to clarify when some random girl is in such a private part of the Devil's Rose MC.
After hearing Kai's name, and his relation to Violet, they immediately understand, becoming more welcoming in a split second. She sits down in an open seat and gives herself a moment to take in the room.
As soon as Sabrina and Aurora realize there is another girl in the room, they go up to Violet and ask her a bunch of intimate questions. She plays along with their questions well, not giving them full answers but just enough to fulfill their curiosity.
Soon, they tire of Violet and go back to running around headquarters.
"So, what are the two of you doing here specifically?" Bullet questions, taking a look at my computer screen.
"I've located his old apartment, and I'm just checking out the outside of it, surroundings you know. Making sure it's safe for us to go there," I answer directly.
I'm not interested in hiding any information from them. Why would I?
"Both of you?" Slasher adds in.
"Yeah, Violet wants to be involved, so I'm letting her."
"Letting me?" Violet butts in, sass filling her voice.
"Not like that. It's not a permission thing, it's a safety thing. You don't need my permission for shit."
She nods her head, understanding where I'm coming from, and turns her attention back to the four men who seem absolutely stunned she's as involved as she is.
