CHAPTER 8

As the auspicious day of their engagement arrived. Shivika's family was in a hustle-bustle , excitedly preparing for the event.

Shivika , however , sat in her room , lost in her thoughts. At this point there are lots of thoughts running in her mind. While it was just an engagement for now , the reality of commitment began to sink in.

"Shiviiii" , shouted Ashika excitedly entering her room.

Shivika stood up and they both hugged eachother.

"OH MY GOD!" , Ashika exclaimed looking at Shivika.

"You are looking so pretty" , she said seeing her dressed up in a beautiful saree.

"Is this the time to come to your friend's engagement huh??" , Shivika said in an offended tone lightly hitting her shoulder.

"Arey , now what should I tell you , I got late because of Aayansh" , Ashika replied sitting on the bed.

"Don't blame him , I know you guys got late because of you only , you don't even care about me. You should have been here with me since yesterday" , said Shivika.

"Arey , baba sorry , and in this whole world I care about you the most. Don't speak rubbish" , said Ashika.

Shivika didn't said anything and just sat on the bed beside her.

Seeing Shivika like this Aashika said , "Arey , sorry na , Why are you making your mood off , it's your engagement , be happy".

"It's not like that , I am happy" , said Shivika , forcing a smile.

"Show this , force smile to someone else. Tell me what's the matter" , said Ashika looking at her.

"It's nothing like that , don't use your brain too much , it's just I am tired with all these preparations" , replied Shivika.

"Is it written foolish over my face" , Ashika said , pointing at her face.

"YES" , replied Shivika.

"Shivika , yaar be serious , it's not time for joke" , Ashika said holding her shoulder.

"You and seriousness. Really Ashi? Those don't go together" , Shivika said , raising her brow and laughing a bit.

"Shivi , here I am worried for you and you......., Ashika was saying but Shivika interrupted her and said , "It's nothing to worry about , Ashi , it's just you know , today is my engagement. I'll be committed to someone today , I know there's time for marriage to happen but still today , I'll be bound to someone , and I can't ignore the fact that I'll have to get married one day. It's confusing , I can't understand what I am thinking or feeling right now."

Ashika was listening to her and after few minutes , said , "I don't know what to say about this. But Shivi , I think it's normal to feel this way. Still I'll suggest you don't worry , trust Shivji and be happy. Trust , your decision and don't worry about marriage right now. Look you are getting engaged now. And I guess marriage will happen in a year or two. Don't worry about it now. And use this time to get to know your life partner better.

"Even , if I will not like him in the future , I won't have any say in all these" , Shivika said , looking off into the distance.

"So , you don't like him" , Ashika asked her.

"Arey , no. He seems good but how can I know just from one meeting?" , replied Shivika.

"Shivi , you were the one who praised him a lot after that one meeting" , Ashika pointed out , looking at her.
