CHAPTER 16

It was a dark night, but the moon was shining brightly, lighting up everything around. Rudra sat on the cot on his room's balcony, looking up at the sky. His mind was filled with thoughts about what had happened that day.
He held his phone loosely in his hand, thinking about whether he should call Shivika or not.

He felt a wave of frustration wash over him. The decisions, the rushed marriage plans, the pressure-it all went against his nature. Rudra had never been one to sit quietly and accept wrongdoings. His entire life, he had been taught to stand up against injustice, to speak out against what was wrong, lessons imparted by his grandfather and his religious teachings. And yet, here he was, being pushed to accept a situation that felt entirely against his principles.

A cool breeze blew, brushing against his face. It carried the sweet scent of jasmine flowers from the garden below. The trees swayed gently, and their leaves made a soft rustling sound. A few birds chirped in the distance, reminding him that life went on, even when he felt stuck in his thoughts.

He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to find some peace in the cool wind that flowed around him. The serenity of the night contrasted sharply with the turmoil inside him. Everything seemed so far from what he had believed in, from what he had been taught. How could he just sit back and let things unfold this way?

Rudra took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the day's events pressing on him. Vidyut's words echoed in his mind, and he started to remember the conversation they had earlier.

**FLASHBACK**

As Rudra returned from Rampur, he headed straight to his office. Upon entering, he noticed Vidyut already there, busy with some work. Sometimes, when Rudra couldn't teach, Vidyut took over, handling classes on his behalf and overseeing other tasks.

Seeing Rudra, Vidyut approached him. "Come," he said, gesturing towards the desk. Rudra entered and took a seat opposite him.

"Did you write that application or not?" Vidyut asked, referring to an application Rudra needed to write for the collector.

"Yes, I wrote it. You should cross-check it once," Rudra replied, sitting back in his chair, clearly exhausted. He leaned back, sighing heavily, his frustration evident.

"Everything is fine, right?" Vidyut asked, noticing the tension in Rudra's demeanor.

"No, yaar. I don't know what to do. Everyone thinks marriage is the solution, even Shivika thinks the same," Rudra said, irritation creeping into his voice.

"Everyone is right in their place, and she is too," Vidyut replied calmly.

"How?" Rudra asked, his annoyance clear.

"Listen, her family is scared, and she probably is too," Vidyut began. "What do you expect her to do or think? She's in a situation where she just wants everyone to be safe."

"But it's not right. We can't just sit quietly. We should fight against what is wrong," Rudra reasoned, his frustration mounting.

"You are right. I think we should speak to Shivaay about this matter. For now, just say yes to the marriage and resolve the issue before the marriage," Vidyut suggested.

"Then what's the point of saying yes now? And what if the matter isn't solved by the time of the marriage? Then what will we do?" Rudra asked, exasperated.

"Then let everyone be worried, and Shivika too. If you say yes, then I think the tension will be reduced to some extent," Vidyut said.

"But the marriage is happening faster than we decided. We didn't get to know each other," Rudra argued, feeling the pressure of the accelerated timeline.

Vidyut interrupted him, "What do you want, Rudra? Are you not ready for this marriage?"

"Yaar, I'm ready, and I was ready before too. But it's about Shivika; she clearly isn't ready. She's only saying yes because these circumstances are happening," Rudra admitted, concern evident in his voice.

Listening to him, Vidyut smiled slightly and said, "Rudra, if you're ready, then say yes for now and try to solve the matter as early as possible. If everything happens as planned, then there's no problem. If things don't go as planned, then consider it as God's plan and accept it."

Rudra listened to him and nodded. Vidyut's calm reasoning made sense, easing some of his frustration.

**FLASHBACK END**

He was thinking about what Vidyut had said. For some reason, Vidyut's idea seemed right to him. It felt like a sensible approach to handle the situation without causing more stress for Shivika.
Rudra hesitated for a while before finally deciding to call Shivika. When she didn't answer, he put his phone down, deciding he would try again later. He sighed and turned his attention back to his work, hoping it would help keep his mind off things.

Meanwhile, Shivika had just finished dinner with her family and retreated to her room, her mind buzzing with thoughts. She couldn't stop thinking about her conversation with Rudra.

This strange attraction she felt toward him was new, something she had never experienced before.
As she sat on the edge of her bed, she saw her phone light up with a missed call from Rudra. It was already 11 p.m., too late to call him back now.
She sighed, feeling a mix of emotions. He had already said he was ready, and she knew he wouldn't back out.
Shivika's thoughts wandered back to their recent conversations.
She felt a twinge of guilt, realizing she hadn't been as committed as Rudra.
He always considered her feelings and sought her opinion before making any decisions. In contrast, she felt she was holding back, not putting in the same effort to make their relationship work.
This realization made her feel unsure of herself.

Feeling overwhelmed, she began speaking softly to herself, her voice barely a whisper. "Why am I feeling this way? I've never been this attracted to someone." She took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment before continuing,
"I've never felt this kind of peace before, like everything will be okay after talking to him. I've never felt this comfortable with anyone else. Why am I feeling like this? It's so much to handle."
She paused, taking another deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts , "But despite all this confusion," she continued, "this marriage feels right. None of this feels clear, but somehow, I feel like I'm ready for it. I don't know why, but I do.

With that thought, she lay down, pulling the blanket over herself. Her mind was still swirling with emotions, but a small part of her felt at ease, as if acknowledging her readiness had lifted a weight off her shoulders. She decided to set her worries aside and let sleep take over, hoping that things would make more sense in the morning.
