CHAPTER 23

As the car drove on after the bidaai , Anirudh sat at the wheel, with Ruhanika beside him in the front seat. Shivika, exhausted from the ceremonies, was in the back, leaning against Rudra. She had fallen asleep on his shoulder, while Rudra sat quietly, his eyes half-closed.

Suddenly, Ruhanika shouted, "Bhai! Stop the car!"

Anirudh abruptly hit the brakes, startled. He turned to her with concern. "What happened?"

Ruhanika smiled sheepishly. "I want to eat something."

Anirudh shook his head in disbelief, glancing at Rudra for confirmation. The movement caused Shivika to stir, and she woke up, realizing she was leaning against Rudra. Embarrassed, she quickly sat up, rubbed her eyes, and glanced around.

"Do you want anything, Bhabhi?" Anirudh asked.

"No, no, you guys go ahead," Shivika replied, still adjusting herself.

But Ruhanika interrupted, "Bring me something fast."

Just as Anirudh was about to leave, Rudra spoke up. "Wait."

Anirudh turned toward him, "What happened, Bhai sa? Do you need something too?"

Rudra shook his head. "No, just get a bottle of water and something for your Bhabhi. She hasn’t eaten."

Shivika glanced at Rudra, surprised by his concern. He looked back at her and simply added, "It’s a long journey. You should eat something. We still have more than an hour to go."

Anirudh nodded and stepped out to get the food, leaving Shivika to process Rudra’s quiet care. She could sense his natural, subtle concern.

Ruhanika turned toward Shivika, grinning. "Bhabhi, I think your hair is a bit messy. Should I fix it? And your makeup too."

Shivika quickly searched for her purse and, finding it beside her, pulled out her phone to check her reflection. Indeed, her hair was a bit out of place, and her makeup was smudged from her nap. "Can you really fix it?" she asked.

"Of course!" Ruhanika said, smiling. "But first, let’s eat, then I’ll help with your hair and makeup."

When Anirudh returned with burgers, Shivika ate a little, even though she wasn’t too hungry, but Rudra’s words stuck with her. Afterward, Ruhanika slipped into the back seat to help Shivika fix her makeup, saying, "Bhabhi, wash your face first."

Shivika complied, and Ruhanika quickly tidied up her makeup. Just as they were finishing, another car pulled up in front of theirs. Karthik and Abhinav stepped out, looking at them in surprise.

Anirudh was puzzled. "What happened? You guys left earlier. Why are you here?"

Abhinav replied, "Oh, we dropped off Foofa ji; he had some important work. Then we saw your car and thought something was wrong, so we stopped to check."

As they exchanged pleasantries, Abhinav caught sight of Ruhanika finishing her burger. He grinned mischievously. "Oh my God! Look at this 'bandariya' eating too much. Didn’t you eat enough at the wedding?"

Ruhanika glared at him, wiped her mouth, and shot back, "If I’m a 'bandariya,' then you're a 'bandar.'"

Anirudh chuckled at their banter, and Abhinav, pretending to be offended, turned to him. "If I’m 'bandar' and she’s 'bandariya,' then as her brother, you must be one too."

Anirudh looked at them in mock disbelief, but before he could respond, Vidyut and Karthik joined in the laughter. Even Rudra, known for his serious demeanor, smiled. Shivika couldn’t help but chuckle at their playful bickering.
