I woke up quite late. My body ached from being out all night, I had a killer headache and desperately needed water. I'm glad drunk me decided to shower last night.
I dragged my body through the motions. I told myself I'd go out today, so I did.
After a long shower to wake up and feel human again, I picked out an outfit; a dark brown maxi dress and a beaded shrug. I completed the look with a few gold bracelets and a pair of sunglasses to hide my tired eyes.
Taking my time, I walked downstairs, only to stop at the entrance on the ground floor. "Yasu?" I blurted out, surprised. A bald head I'd definitely remember anywhere.
Yasu was there, a cigarette in hand, holding out his phone. "Hey, kid," he said, looking up and giving me a grin. "How's the new apartment treating you?"
"It's Nanami," I corrected with a playful eye roll, "but the apartment is great. What are you doing here?"
He took a drag from his cigarette and shrugged. "Just helping a friend move in. I was about to call a cab. You caught me on the way out."
I gasped, rushing to him. This was my chance. I pulled out my phone and immediately handed it to him.
He raised a brow in question.
"Your number, I didn’t get it last time," I said.
"Ah..." he laughed, making me feel embarrassed. But he gave it to me. "I'm guessing you're going somewhere nice since you're dressed like that?"
I twirled so he could see the full fit. "Like it? I made the shrug myself. Weaving in the beads took forever."
"You do look magnificent," he said, handing back my phone. "So where are you headed?"
"I'm going shopping. Wanna come? Would be great to have a second opinion."
"Sorry, kid, I need to get to the airport. Maybe next time?" he said apologetically.
"Aww, it's a shame. When you're around, you should call me. Let's hang out. I still owe you that drink."
He paused for a second. "Actually, I could just reschedule my flight. I'll take you shopping."
I nearly burst in excitement. "Really??"
"Yeah, come on," he said, putting out his cigarette.
I hooked my arm in his, which were in his pockets. His cologne smelled good, too good. He called a taxi to take us to the mall district.
"Wait, Yasu, you're a lawyer?" I asked, strawberry smoothie in hand. Yasu sat across from me with my bags at his feet. He reclined in the chair in a cool manner. He looked so fucking cool. I kept getting distracted looking at him.
"I'm just an intern right now, but yeah, if you need a lawyer, you know where to find me."
I found that hella attractive. He had a career going for him and everything.
"What about you?" he asked, leaning forward so his elbows rested on the silver table. "What are you doing in Tokyo?"
"I'm a student here starting next semester."
"Really?"
"Yeah, at the University of Tokyo."
"Must have taken you a lot to get in. You're a smart girl."
He had that low voice that made my mind go blank completely. I flushed, averting my gaze. He knew what he was doing; his smirk was evident of that.
"Um, don't you have to go soon, Yasu?" I wanted to sound cool and confident, but my voice betrayed me.
