Joshua has been ignoring me for the past couple of weeks now. I've tried calling him, texting him, and he even stopped eating lunch at school with us. I thought about going to his house to apologize to him but his dad scares me and I figure he needs to cool down and realize he's being petty. Today is Monday, January 15th and I hope today is the day Joshua lets me apologize.
Alice never showed up to the bus stop and I assumed it's because she was running late and had Lori drop her off. But she never showed up to first or second period and today we had a French exam due in Mrs. Blanc's class that Alice missed.
"Is it just the two of us today?" Lucy asks me while we meet up at our lunchroom table.
"Yeah, I guess so," I reply. "I'm worried about Alice though, she knew about the test today and she still didn't show up."
"Hmm."
"I should call her," I pull out my phone.
"Don't you're going to look desperate," Lucy tells me.
"I don't care,'' I say as the call is already ringing.
"Hello," Alice says over the phone.
"Hi," I say, forgetting why I called.
"What's up?" She asks.
"Nothing," I say, "oh I was wondering why you're not at school today."
"It's my birthday!" Alice replies.
"It's your birthday?" I ask and Lucy gives me a look of excitement.
"Yeah, grandma let me ditch today so she could take me shopping in the city," she replies. I can picture her smiling over the phone. I was gonna tell her about the test she missed but I don't want to ruin her day. Lucy starts slapping my arm from across the table and mouthing "let's party"
"Are you doing anything later?" I ask.
"I don't know, me and grandma were talking about going to the movies later," she said.
"Could you two go another day and then we can come over and party instead?" I ask.
"Yeah, that would be fun, I'm sure grandma would be okay with that, it is my birthday after all." she replies.
"Great, we'll see you tonight then," I say.
"Okay! Bye!" she says
"Happy Birthday, bye" I say and the call ends.
"It's her birthday? How come she didn't tell us?" Lucy asks.
"I don't know" I say "but we need to give her the best birthday party ever, Lucy!" I cry
"Okay, how? we just found out it's her birthday and we still have school." she replies.
"I know," I say thinking, "I'll go shopping for party decorations after school."
"My parents have a karaoke machine, I can bring that." she says.
"Okay great, we'll split up and meet at Alice's after." I say.
"Okay, what about Joshua though?" Lucy asks.
"What do you mean, what about him?" I ask.
"He's her friend, she would want him there. And he'll be even more mad at you if we don't tell him." Lucy replies.
"Fine, invite him and then grab the karaoke machine." I say.
After school I rushed over to the supermarket. I picked out blue balloons that say Happy Birthday, I got blue shiny birthday hats for everyone to wear and a silver princess crown with blue feathers and blue letters that spells out Happy Birthday for Alice to wear. I picked out a chocolate cake, because I remembered that chocolate was Alice's favorite and I asked the baker to write "Happy Birthday Alice!" and to add a heart and some flowers on it. I picked out some blue birthday candles while I was there. Before I checked out I remembered that I should buy her a gift. What would she like though? I went down every aisle until something caught my eye, and down aisle ten I found a blue gem bracelet that I could see Alice wearing every day. I checked out and went straight to Alice's home from the bus.
