Blue Kisses

Chapter 11

The hallways are quiet, most of the students and teachers have gone home. And I'm sitting in the stairway outside of Mrs. Blanc's classroom waiting for Alice to finish her exam. I can't take the silence and waiting so I put in my headphones and put on my favorite playlist. The minutes fly by and I open my eyes to find Alice kicking my shoe to signal that she's done. Brown Eyes by Lady Gaga is playing in my headphones and I don't want Alice to know that I'm listening to it because she has brown eyes and she'll know I was daydreaming about her, if she hears it. I pause the music on my phone first and then take out my headphones.

"You waited for me?" Alice asks.

"Yeah I wanted to know how well you did?" I reply

"Well I don't know for sure yet but I think I did okay," she says while I stand up. "Oh by the way, what exactly did you tell Mrs. Blanc I was sick with? She seemed so concerned."

"Oh, I told her you have really bad periods and that morning you were puking up and having diarrhea at the same time." I say, trying not to laugh.

"What the hell? Why did you say that? What's wrong with you?" Alice asks me, smacking my arm and laughing.

"I wanted her to believe you were seriously sick so she would let you retake the test, so you're welcome" I reply.

"Thank you," she says, smiling up at me.

"Should we do something to celebrate?" I ask.

"Celebrate? For taking the test?" she asks.

"Yeah why not, what would you like to do?" I ask.

"Go swimming," she says.

"It's the middle of winter," I reply.

"Yeah so what, you asked what I wanted to do." she says.

"Okay but the only indoor swimming pool here in town name, is a thirty minute bus ride away and it's been closed down since last year because one of the slides broke while a kid was going down it." i say.

"Wow, okay." she says shocked. "What about the school's pool?" Alice asks mischievously.

"It's after hours, no way. We'll get in trouble." I say.

"How do you know? Let's go check to see if it's open" She says.

We walk to the school's pool and Alice try's the handle and the doors open, she peaks her head inside and no one is in there.

"Why would the door be unlocked if they wanted to keep students out? Huh?," she whispers.

"No, we can't. Plus we don't even have our swimsuits." I whisper back. Alice goes inside leaving me out in the hallway. Why is she so persistent? I open the door and Alice dropped her backpack on the floor and is taking off her shoes and socks. "You're not going in naked, are you?"

"Oh my gosh, no," she laughs. Alice dips in her blue painted toes "it's not too cold" she says looking at me and then jumping in.

"Alice," I complain, lightly shouting at her when she comes back up for air.

She looks up at me, her hair soaked down pressed against her face. She looks unfamiliar with black, flat, and straight hair. "Get in!" Alice shouts, wiping the water from her eyes.

My heart is racing, what do I do? I want to jump in and swim with her but I can't. "Just jump in,"

I hesitate again

"You said we could celebrate, so don't let me celebrate alone" she says I put my backpack down next to hers and take off my shoes and socks. "Come on, the water feels so good," she says floating on her back.
