I'll pretend

"Kiss me."

The words had Toni turning with surprised eyes, surely she'd heard her wrong, that her words had been distorted by the music from the stage in the corner of the bar.

Despite the insane air that this night had taken on, no matter how confused the brunette was by the turn of events, there was no way, no possible way on this earth, or any other, that Cheryl Blossom had just ordered her to kiss her.

Then one of Cheryl's hands slid from the brunettes shoulder to the back of her head and pressed down, and that's when the redheads lips moulded themselves to hers.

Toni didn't respond for a second, stunned by the gesture, then instinct took over and she tightened her arms around Cheryl's waist, pulling her closer as she opened her mouth to the redheads.

Even over the music, she could still hear the little whimper that Cheryl emitted, a sound that had the brunette pressing the girl even closer to her, and she was dimly aware of the redhead's hands threading through her hair.

Time stopped, the world disappeared from around them, and there was nothing else that existed apart from the two of them.
When time restarted, and the world came back, Toni found herself staring into the wide eyes of one of her 'friends'?

She doesn't know how she'd describe her relationship with the redhead. The girl's first words directed towards her were calling her 'serpent scum' so it didn't start off the best but it seemed to be going in the right direction after the movies at Pops, but she doesn't want to put a label on their relationship, she'd leave that up to Cheryl.

Toni could see the redhead's flushed cheeks, could feel her heart pounding as she held her and she couldn't miss her rapid breathing and was sure that cheryl was noticing pretty much the same thing with hers.

But Toni knew what the kiss had been about, so there was only one thing to ask her.

"Did it work?"

Because, after all that's what it had all been about. It hadn't been about her, hadn't been about them. She'd known that from the second that Cheryl sat down beside her.

She hadn't planned to come here tonight, she had planned to go home to her trailer, to sit in front of her TV, until sleep claimed her on her couch.

But for some reason that she still couldn't fathom, she'd changed her mind halfway home, and she came here instead, the Whyte Wyrm.

It was Thursday night, the place was heaving with people. She'd found herself a seat at the bar, ordered a beer, that she knows she's only allowed to order since she's a serpent.

The brunette had been surprised when a familiar voice sounded in her ear, but that surprise was nothing to the surprise when the redhead slipped her arm around her waist as if it belonged there, and left it there.

"Pretend like you know me," were the words that Cheryl said to her, just loud enough that only she could hear them, and Toni turned slightly on her seat so that she could look at the redhead, one brow arching as she did so.

"I could pretend that," She said, a smirk appearing on her face despite herself. "Except, I do actually know you."

Cheryl had shot her one of those looks that she usually reserved for anyone around school who'd said or done something particularly foolish. It had made Toni grin though, not that she ever took that look seriously anyway.

The grin might also have been because she looked cheryl up and down as she turned, and she didn't look very much like the Cheryl she was used to.

The redhead obviously was trying to impress someone. Her make-up was flawless, her hair curled, black trousers with pinstripes that glittered in the dim light of the bar, and some wispy kind of top that Toni swore could only be staying on her back thanks to the gaze of every man in the bar.
