Guardian Angel Part 16

Uzi woke up alone, a small paper note was on her beside table with a short message written in black, the liquid had to be oil but Uzi found she wasn't disturbed by that. Actually, it almost comforted her, it was evidence that N really had showed up last night.

Dear Uzi

Sorry I can't be around in this morning, but I'd like to do something special tonight! I got you a gift and have some ideas, and don't worry, nobody is messing with you today. If you want to contact the angels I won't mind, but I've still got a job to do (;

Love N

The note was somewhat concerning with its implication of punishment on Uzi's bullies, but the worker instead found herself focusing on the more exciting angle of 'tonight', what was N planning? Uzi wondered what the gift and these 'ideas' were.

Wait a second...is there a chance he wants to have sex?

Uzi took a moment to think over N's phrasing, there was nothing specific about doing the deed, or even a direct flirt- but the mention of 'tonight' seemed suspicious, especially with N claiming to have 'ideas' for it.

Obviously Uzi couldn't tell exactly what N meant, but found herself wondering about it either way, she was currently 19 and a virgin. Uzi had never even really been in a relationship before and the time she kissed N after he'd been caught cannibalising the cheer squad was technically her first kiss.

She knew how it worked obviously, for some reason workers could partake in intercourse the same way as humans, but the idea of actually doing the deed was terrifying.

I don't even know if that's the plan! Stop freaking out!

Sighing away her fear, Uzi shook herself awake and got dressed, attempting to ignore the image of naked N that kept appearing in her mind. 

"Uzi? You up?" Khan called while opening the bedroom door, he forgot to knock but thankfully Uzi was already fully dressed. "Yeah dad?" Uzi responded, sounding genuinely well rested and perky, Khan couldn't help but smile at her chipper tone.

The old man lent against Uzi's doorframe "School is off today, something about the teacher being on a mental health break". Uzi couldn't help herself from grinning, a day away from her trash classmates, a day should could devote to preparing for 'tonight'- whatever that turned out to be.

It didn't take long for Uzi to decide she wanted to go shopping~ specifically to find a gift for N. She had no idea what the plans for tonight were or what he'd got her, but had decided whatever it was would be worthy of a gift back. Her robotic mind was flooded with images and thoughts of N, like nothing else could fit.

Since it was a week day the shopping mall was pretty quiet, it was mostly parents running errands and old drones keeping themselves busy, though Uzi recognised a small handful of her classmates and peers trying on prom dresses.

Oh right, prom is next month.

Uzi wasn't really keen to go to prom, not if N couldn't be her date, but she was tempted to try on a dress... that black corseted one with a hemmed skirt looked pretty nice.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" A voice came from behind, prompting Uzi to turn from the shop window and face Thad, who was racing away from a sobbing Annie.

Annie looked pretty different from yesterday, her hair was messier, and her outfit was a different style- actually it kinda looked like how Lizzy used to dress. Uzi guessed that the curse was prompting Annie to try and resemble any girl Thad had ever been close with.

It was such a tragic and pathetic sight that Uzi should have felt bad and asked N then and there to remove his curse....

But instead she laughed, fully satisfied at Annie getting what she deserved, whatever trauma that drone endured outside meant nothing when her heart was being denied daily.

Serves her right.

Thad ran beside Uzi, panting from exhaustion as he tried to explain the situation, Annie called out to him in tears asking for a chance. Not a chance to date or kiss him, just to be nearby, as if that would satisfy some part of her obsession.

"She really likes you Thad" Uzi joked, helping Thad stand up properly, he glared at Uzi briefly but it fell pretty quickly. The poor boy was far too tired to be upset, Annie had bumped into him on the way and insisted she 'would give him anything', in exchange for some degree of attention.

Thad stammered as Annie raced forward again, sobbing with her arms out for him, clearly wanting nothing more than to have him to herself. "GET OFF!" Thad screamed, shoving Annie as she tried to hug him loosely. Thad continued yelling while Annie begged him for love, desperate even just to hear him talk...

Uzi sighed at the situation and pulled Thad by the shoulder to face her, smiling confidently while explaining "Annie just needs some degree of attention, platonic or romantic, you do that and she'll calm down at least a bit".

It was suspicious how confident and certain Uzi was, but poor Thad was so desperate at this point he didn't question where she got the information from, choosing to face Annie. Nervously Thad reached out his arm and clumsily pet Annie's hair, which instantly made her go quiet, smiling softly at the release Thad's affection brought her.

While Thad gently pet Annie's head, Uzi noticed his expression shift from desperate and confused, to some level of concern, maybe even a hint of caring.

"I should take her to have her code analysed, make sure this isn't a bug" Thad sighed, choosing to stop petting Annie and instead gently cup her face, unintentionally looking away from Uzi.

Speaking of Uzi, the way she looked at Thad and Annie made her heart burn- she knew Annie was cursed and Thad didn't love her- but seeing them interact so sweetly...it hurt. Was she jealous? Not exactly. More just...confused.

Her bond with N was born from nothing, he fell in love with her for some reason he never fully explained, and she fell for the way he cared for her. It was real, and Uzi knew that, but it wasn't right.

"Thad, I have a friend coming over later, and I want to give him a gift- what do guys like?" Uzi asked, trying to ignore her imagination, which was currently displaying fantasy N taking her on a picnic in a quiet meadow full of pretty purple and yellow flowers.

There's not even any flowers on Copper 9, that fantasy makes zero sense.

Uzi was snapped out of her thoughts when Thad answered her question, still holding onto Annie, who looked as if she was in heaven. "Well kinda depends on the guy, but you can't go wrong with a cool hoodie, every guy appreciates a cool hoodie" Thad offered, it wasn't a genius idea, but kind of worked.

"Well, I guess that's a regular gift, doesn't feel that special though..." Uzi quietly mumbled, not fully thinking her words through.

Thad looked at Uzi's face, she seemed distant today, yet happy.

Has she got a new boyfriend? She'd tell me right? Though I guess the last one didn't work out...

Uncertain whether or not his hunch was right, Thad decided to play bold, "A lot of guys appreciate when girls do something for them, like wear things they choose...or play games they enjoy" he wasn't being obvious- but his tone implied he knew something.

Uzi blushed purple, it seemed Thad was onto her...but it also wasn't a bad idea. Wearing something N would like for tonight would be good...and if she went along with whatever his idea was...

"Thanks Thad" Uzi replied, still lost in thought about what to do, but now with a new perspective.

Thad smiled and adjusted his hold on Annie to instead be gripping her shoulder. "Hey, let's go to the technician, Uzi has shopping to do" Thad stated to Annie, who instantly nodded. She was thrilled to get time with Thad, no matter where they went.

As the two left Uzi couldn't help but smirk, Thad thought Annie had damaged code- and if it was fixed she'd be fine. He was in for a rough time.

But back to the matter at hand, what would make N happiest? And what was his plan?
