Mia had hurt a lot of people in her life, both intentionally, and unintentionally. She was only 17, fresh in college, had too many fake friends to count and a concerning alcohol and smoking addiction. Her mother was never home, her dad left a long while ago. She had only two friends she would count as real ones; Reece and Autumn. They had been with her from the beginning, but lately, things were changing between them, and it was all Mia's fault. She knew it was. Roger, both Reece and Autumn's father, and also the principal of the school they all attend, had sunk his claws into Mia. He had promised her the location of her father, and also the threat that if she were to fail; well, it wouldn't be nice. So, she followed along with his plan. He hadn't explained any of it to her, just what she had to do. She thought it was a little odd, but did so anyway. She would steal Reece away every chance she could get, going to his house after school, or him coming over to hers. It was fun. It reminded her of the time they had when they were younger, before Reece started dating that stuck up, bitchy whore, also known as Marjorie.
Though, deep down, Mia knew all she had was herself, and that worked for her. It sucked, but it worked.
Until she met her.
Charlotte. Straight A student, friends with everybody, and no drama throughout all of her school years. She was the girl people's parents compared their children to, and nobody could even complain because they were right. Everybody loved her. Even Mia; the cold hearted bitch who everybody despised, feared, looked up to, and used.
"Reecey, wait up." Mia would walk over to the blonde, linking her arm through his as they walked through the front gates of the school. It had been a long day, and quite honestly, Mia didn't want to go home to an empty house for another night. Her mother hadn't been home in weeks, and although Mia liked the freedom, it was lonely. Much too lonely. "Seriously, Mia? You only came over a few days ago. I promised Autumn I'd take her out somewhere tonight."
That was the other thing. Mia didn't quite know why yet, but Roger had asked her to keep Reece and Autumn apart. Autumn was like a little sister to her, she didn't really like the idea of keeping her and her brother separated, but the idea of being able to see her dad again drove her to do it. She had questions for him. Many, many questions. "Cmon, you can take her out tomorrow. I really need to be with someone. You know how depressing it is at mine at the moment."
Reece would sigh with a roll of the eyes. If it were anyone else, he would turn it down and carry on with his own plans. But, he had a soft spot for Mia. They had been through thick and thin together, and Mia had been there for him when he had been at his lowest. All he could do was return the favour. "Fine."
"Thank you, Reecey. How about we go grab coffee? I'll pay."
"Sounds good."
The two of them would make their way into town like most of the other kids from the school, albeit most of them were the younger years, and would walk into the coffee shop. It was always pretty crowded after school hours, apparently mostly everyone's first thoughts were to come here. Nevertheless, Reece would order their usuals - a vegan iced latte, and a cappuccino, and Mia would pay. After a couple minutes of waiting (which felt like hours), they would get their drinks and would head for the door. Mia would walk out first, bumping into someone as she did. "Watch it. Christ."
"Oh, god, I'm so sorry! Are you– Shoot, sorry."
Mia would scoff before looking towards the culprit, and her demeanour would relax almost instantly. She had never spoken to her before, but she knew who she was. Everyone did. Everyone adored her. Charlotte. Mia would clear her throat as she brushed some hair out of her face and stared at the girl, studying her from top to bottom, which earned her some confused looks from the other. "It's fine, sweetheart. Just watch where you're going next time."
Mia's comment had gotten a reaction out of the younger girl. Her face would flush over with a pink tint, and her eyes would divert to the ground by her feet as her hands went up to grab at her necklace, twisting it between her fingers. "Of course. Sorry again." Mia would chuckle as she watched Charlotte go into the shop, and would turn to Reece - getting a not so friendly look from him. She'd raise an eyebrow, "What?"
"Bullying Charlotte? Really? You know she's good friends with Marjorie. You don't need to give her another reason to hate you."
"I wasn't bullying her, I'm not that cruel. Besides, if I wanted Marjorie to hate me more, I'd do so much better than that." Mia would smirk as she turned on her heel and started to walk down the path, taking a sip from her iced latte. Her and Marjorie weren't on good terms, and they never had been before. Everybody at the school knew they had a little rivalry going. Last year the two of them had gotten into a massive fight, both physical and verbal, and it only ended because two teachers had pulled them apart. Ever since, everybody has always gotten nervous whenever the two are seen in the same hallway, or room, or in eyesight. It was a moment nobody had forgotten. Unfortunately for Mia, that had caused all of Majorie's friends to thoroughly dislike her, apart from Reece and Autumn, though she was sure they were wavering about their opinions on her. Autumn had been so much more distant, and not only because she was keeping Reece away from her. And Reece, well, she was sure he was only sticking around because they had been best friends for years, and it would be a bit stupid to end it just because he's dating Marjorie.
