It had been a week since Mia's encounter with Charlotte, and to be quite frank, she couldn't stop thinking about it. She had been noticing her around the school much more frequently, and seeing her after school hours too. She hadn't dared to make conversation with her just yet. She wasn't so sure if it was a good idea, for both her and Charlotte. It's not like they were compatible in any way, right?

Mia would sigh as she grabbed her handbag and slung it over her shoulder, before exiting the classroom and heading out into the halls. She didn't have any more lessons today (thank god), but that just meant that she'd have to go home to the empty shell of a house which she called home. It wasn't ideal, but at least she had somewhere. She couldn't complain about that.

She would get home and would close the door behind her, kicking off her shoes and heading to the sofa in the living room, sprawling across it as she turned on the TV and opened her bag, pulling out a cigarette and a lighter. She wasn't too big of a fan of smoking, considering it can shorten your life span and makes you age so much faster, but it was a hard habit to put down, and quite honestly; it gave her comfort. It let her feel something. She'd put the cigarette between her lips and would light the end of it, inhaling the smoke as she dropped her bag onto the floor and pulled out her phone. She would go onto snapchat, replying to a message Reece sent her earlier about some party he was going to on the weekend, and then would look through her friend requests. Although she was a person nobody really liked, she had a face everybody wanted to be. Somebody everybody wanted to know, even if it came with the risk of being mentally, and perhaps physically hurt. She'd take a drag of her cigarette as she accepted half of them, denying the others, and then she would spot someone. Charlotte. Charlotte had added her as a friend? It couldn't be right. No way.

Mia would accept it, wary of why Charlotte would do such a thing. It couldn't be anything good, surely.

A couple hours would go by, and Mia was still in the same place she had been before. Not having any company gave her time to think to herself, and it wasn't too helpful. It just made her feel worse with every thought that popped into her head.

Charlotte has sent you a snap. Say Hi!

Mia would instantly pull snapchat up and would click onto Charlotte, hoping for a message of some sort. But no, it was just a picture of the ground. She would send a picture of half of her face back before sighing and leaning back to stare at the ceiling. She was unsure of why Charlotte had such an effect on her - she had only ever spoken to her once, and Mia wasn't prone to having crushes on people. It just wasn't her. Sure, she'd have the occasional hookup to feel something, but apart from that, nothing. Nobody was up to her standards.

A couple more hours would go by, and Mia had finally gotten up. She had changed into much warmer clothes and had grabbed a bottle of rose wine before heading out to the local park. It was just rolling up to 8:30pm; the sun had set, the streets were empty and street lamps were on. It was quiet. Mia had been surrounded by too much quiet lately, but outside it was just different. It felt like she could really relax.

She would sit down on one of the swings and would blast some music on her phone, subtly swinging forward and back as she opened the bottle of rose and took a swig from it. She hated being the way she was, it wasn't fair. No father, absent mother, practically no real friends except alcohol and nicotine. She wanted to be someone who was happy and had a put together life, instead of being a puppet for some man who was old enough to be her dad. But, unfortunately, this was the card she had been dealt, and she had to deal with it. She just hoped things would be better soon, and she could go back to how she was before everything went downhill.

"Mia."

The redhead would look up and would be met with Reece who stood with his hands in his pockets, and his hood over his head. "What are you doing here? Missing me?" Mia would chuckle as she continued to lightly swing backwards and forth, drinking more out of the bottle. Her and Reece had dated from year 7 to 10. At first they thought they were meant for each other, but soon enough the only reason they stayed together was because they were 'the couple' of the school. Though, the relationship soon came to an end when Mia finally finalised her realisation for liking girls; and also when Reece met Marjorie. The rest was history.

"No, I just had to get away from home. Autumn is at Marjorie's, so I have no reason to be there. You know what my dad's like."

She knew all too well.

"Yeah, sure."

Reece would sit down on the swing next to next and would sigh as he leaned back, his hood falling from his head. "Pass the bottle." The blonde would hold out his hand in Mia's direction, hoping to take the bottle into his hands. The two of them were known to not exactly be sober. Mia dealt alcohol and cigarettes to younger years for double the price, and Reece sold some weed in his spare time. And, they also shared with each other - it was one of the many things they had in common. They needed something to make them feel alive. They both had shitty lives, shitty families and not enough in life to satisfy the hunger for happiness. Though, Reece had seemed much lighter since going out with Marjorie, and it worried Mia. Even though she manipulates Reece behind his back, she still saw him as a best friend, and she didn't want anyone to jeopardise that, unless it was herself.

Mia would take one last swig of the bottle before handing it over to Reece, and she'd sigh as she kicked her legs backwards and forth, gaining a little momentum. The blonde would clear his throat after he had a drink and would look to the girl swinging by his side, "So.. you still coming to that party this weekend? Even though you're a total bitch sometimes, everyone knows a party isn't the same without you. You're like.. The Celine Dion to the titanic."

"That doesn't even make sense."

"You know what I mean."

Mia would scoff as she looked out to the rest of the park. It was so dull and empty during the night, yet there was something so captivating about it. It had always been her go to place. Her dad had always used to bring her here as a kid. Perhaps it's a place that fills a void within her, or perhaps she's just making up excuses because she can't admit that she's broken. "Yeah, I'll be there."
