When Mia got a call off of Roger to come over to his house for a meeting, for once she wanted to, but not for the reasons she should. She wanted to cut him off once and for all, at any cost. Almost any cost. She knew for the life of her she couldn't put anyone in danger, but, she knew what Roger was like. He wouldn't care about anybody's wellbeing but his own. It was typical. But, she had to try.
She'd get a taxi to the Knight house and would sigh as she walked inside. Roger had given her spare key, and that was especially useful when she didn't want Reece or Autumn noticing she was here. They couldn't know about any of this. She knew she barely had a chance with either of them at this point, but if they know she was in cahoots with their father.. it wouldn't even be a possibility. She'd gently shut the door behind her before heading to Roger's office and slipping inside, shutting the door behind her. He would be sat at his desk with a computer open in front of him, his eyes not leaving the screen, even knowing Mia had just entered. He would clear his throat, "Amelia. You brought what I asked for, yes?"
"I have."
Roger had asked her to get her hands on Autumn's diary, which wasn't too hard considering Autumn had left it at Mia's house after Roger's last search of her room. She hated betraying someone she saw as a little sister to her, but, it had to be done. She had to use as much leverage as possible to get herself out of this nightmare.
"What are you waiting for? Hand it over."
"I want to make a deal first."
"What?"
"I want you to let me go. Cut off all ties. I'm done with you. Seriously." Mia's grip on the diary would tighten slightly as she watched the older man opposite her in anticipation, waiting for his reaction. His body language. Anything. But, he would just sit there with his hands held together, not a twitch in the face at all. Just.. emotionless. Still. It was making her a little uncomfortable, though she didn't show that.
"We've had this conversation before. No."
"Then no diary."
She knew this was a dangerous game, fighting fire with fire. It wouldn't turn out well for probably either of them, or perhaps her ego was just starting to get a little big. She wanted to believe she could do this, that she could stand her ground. That she was something more than a pawn, but was she? At the end of the day, nobody would choose her. She was alone. She was nothing. She was just being played, soon to be thrown away.
"I guess I'll give Charlotte's parents a call."
Roger would pick up the phone and would start typing in a number, and Mia was hesitant. He couldn't seriously be dragging other people into it.. right? But then again, it was him. A monster.
"You asshole."
He would stop, slowly placing the phone back down as he looked towards Mia at the other end of his desk. She would stare back, her chest feeling heavier than it did before. This was crazy. Doubt was starting to settle in her chest as her grip on the diary tightened more and more, her knuckles beginning to turn white.
"You might want to calm down before you do something you regret."
Without a second thought, Mia would lob the diary right at Roger's face, though he'd dodge it and miss it by an inch, the book hitting the wall behind him with a loud thud. She felt stupid. She felt stupid for being so angry. It wasn't Roger that was the problem, it was her. If she hadn't agreed to do any of this, it wouldn't be happening right now. She was the idiot.
"You're a bastard, Roger Knight."
"Your mother said that same thing to me. And threw stuff at me. Like mother, like daughter I suppose."
Mia felt like her whole world stopped in those few seconds. Why was he bringing up her mother? Was he deliberately trying to get under her skin? Of course he was. He knew that Mia and her mother didn't have a good relationship. "I'm nothing like her."
"Take a look in the mirror."
She would clench her jaw before she took a deep breath and ran a hand through her hair, calming herself down. This wasn't worth it. What was the point in trying to fight when she knew she couldn't win? She knew when to back off, she knew her place. She would sigh as she rested a hand on her waist. "Have fun with the shitty diary."
She would turn around and would leave the office, slamming the door behind her. She would start to head to the front door, before noticing Autumn sat on the stairs, just.. waiting. Mia's eyes would widen slightly in shock as she turned to her. Did she notice her come in? Did she hear them talking?
"Autumn?"
"Why were you in father's study?"
Mia would look towards the front door as she thought of her response. She had to be smart about it, but she knew Autumn was smart too. Nothing could get past that girl. Mia would sigh as she looked back towards her. "I was suspended. I was just asking if I could go back."
"By shouting and throwing things? I assume that's what I heard.."
Shit. Of course she would've heard. "Well, we both know he's an asshole."
"Hm. I guess you're right."
Mia would nod her head with a small smile before tucking some hair behind her ear. "Yeah. Well,
I best be off." Mia would turn to walk out, before stopping when she heard the word "wait" come from Autumn. She'd turn back to face her. "Yeah?""Did Kenny really want to ask me out?"
Mia would frown as she heard the tone of Autumn's voice. It sounded.. guilty. Heavy. Mia hated that she was the cause. She hated herself for it. "Yeah. He did. I'm sorry for telling Reece, but, I thought he had to know."
Autumn would nod her head before heading upstairs and Mia would let out a sigh of relief before heading out the front door, the cold air hitting her face calming her down almost instantly.
