What was I even doing? My heart is completely torn. I should be at home, helping with Offredi's, yet here I am on a flight to Stockholm. I am a mess.
The process of booking a flight to Sweden was pretty difficult. For some reason, there was an influx of people traveling, and the hotspot right now was Sweden. I managed to find one last flight for the same day, and by nighttime, I was up in the skies.
From my window, I saw the beautiful clouds that were revealed. It was pitch black because of the night sky. The clouds, soft like little cotton balls or bunnies with stuffy little tails. Nature has always been fascinating to me, and the fact that our planet has so much diversity truly amazes me. Out of my daydream, I heard a loud baby cry, which was disturbing to say the least. It was almost 2 am, which woke up some individuals.
Since it was so late, I decided that I should try and finally fall asleep. But every time I closed my eyes, I felt no peace whatsoever. I reached down for my big bag of airport things and put my headphones on. Hopefully, rain sounds can manage to put me under.
It took me a while to finally fall asleep, but when I did, I slept comfortably with no care for anything in my environment. I eventually woke up with my head on the window's glass, looking down and almost jumping in fear. Well, that was one way to wake up, Lorena. Besides me being paranoid of falling to my death, the view was beautiful. I could see lights from people's homes and our elevation was decreasing. The plane was finally close to landing.
When we landed, I raced quickly to baggage claim to get my stuff. It did not take me long to get my two small bags, so I quickly rushed to the closest cafe.
In the cafe, I noticed various advertisements, including one for Elias's dad's company. "That crook," I muttered to myself. He didn't deserve all that publicity. If anything, Elias should be the head of the company. He would run the company so much better than his father.
I sat down on one of the barstools in the cafe and I placed an order for a tall latte. Google Translate had to assist me since my Swedish was practically gibberish. Thankfully, the barista understood my request and quickly prepared my drink.
As I took my first sip, the rich aroma of the coffee enveloped me. The warm, creamy latte offered me a warm welcome to this unfamiliar place. Sweden seemed like a lovely place to be around, its atmosphere a haven of peace. The warmth of the cup in my hands grounded me and made me feel happy.
Realizing I needed to find Elias, I decided to call his mother. Hopefully she would not ignore me.
"Hello?" Elias' mom inquired.
"Yes, I wanted to let you know that I am in Stockholm. Now, I know you might not tell me where he is, but I wanted to let you know," I said.
"Lorena, do you really think it's a good idea for you to reappear in his life right now?" she questioned. "I mean, he's finally getting over some of his stress right now with work." She sighed over the phone.
Maybe she was right. It wasn't too late to turn around.
But I couldn't. I made it this far and needed closure.
"With all due respect, Mrs. Johannson, I believe this is my issue."
"It is, darling," she said empathetically. "I'm sorry. I'm just concerned for him."
"I understand, and I am too. But Elias feels like the only person I want. I need to let him know that."
She sighed, and after a moment's pause, she ended the call.
