Elias's POV:

One image that couldn't escape my mind was the look on Lorena's face when she had just been threatened. I remember how worried her face looked and how she completely gave away the man's privilege of having children. I was confused by the encounter at first because I was 20 feet away when I saw the scenario. However, his threat was loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear.

I desperately wanted to ask Lorena to be my girlfriend. When we go to the carnival tonight, I will ask her. Realizing it is time to leave, I lock the house and start heading for her apartment complex. She told me that she could pick me up but I told her that I would bring her to the event.

I walk to her apartment door, taking a moment to fix up my outfit and hair before knocking on the door. Once I knock, she comes out dressed in some shorts and a white lace ruched t-shirt. The outfit complemented her figure perfectly and it left me unable to resist gazing at her in admiration.

"Are you ready to leave, daydreamer?" I playfully ask. "I am ready." She holds up her phone that shows two tickets that need to be scanned. I laugh in response and we make way for the elevator. "I won't press all the buttons or one singular button this time," I tell her and she looks at me with doubt. "I doubt that but okay," She returns.

In the elevator, I sneakily press two buttons when she isn't watching. "Elias," She scolds with some anger. "Hey, I didn't say I wasn't going to press two buttons," I tease and I receive an eye roll. "You're one odd individual, you know that right?" She looks at me with an irritated expression. "I've always been sorta special," I respond and she nods in agreement. "Being special can be a bad thing you know."

"You can't talk Lorena because you're into me," I shoot back, brushing off her remark. She looks at me, accepts my statement without doubt, and drops the matter. "Yeah that's right," I mumble quietly under my breath. "What was that Elias?" She says putting her hand to her ear, getting close to me. "You know conceitfulness isn't a good look," She chides, attempting to make a point. I chuckle. "Nevermind."

We make it to the carnival and get into the forming line in front of the entrance that is titled "Henrich County Carnival!" "Hello ma'am, do you have your tickets?" A bald, older man asks in a friendly and welcoming tone. Lorena reaches for her phone and pulls them up rapidly. "Okay, you can proceed. Enjoy!" We say thank you and walk through.

I look at the surroundings. A mesmerizing and glowing ferris wheel, multiple stands where kids and parents tested their luck desperate for a prize, and one stage where there was a band performing. There are many tables near the stage with table coverings covered with plaid print. There seems to be a few roller coasters packed with long lines that we might have to wait a while to get on. The environment is loud with cheer and laughter.

I stare at the ferris wheel. It contains strands of purple, blue, pink and gold which make it shine the most by the peaceful waters that surround the area. When we are walking, Lorena points to the ferris wheel and I look at it. "Isn't that ferris wheel so magnificent?" She asks. "It is beautiful, we will have to go on it tonight," I told her.

I nudge her hand and she takes the hint by accepting my hand. "What's our first stop, Elias?" I ponder. "I think we should do the mirror maze," I suggest, pointing to the building that has the words "mirror maze" in bold print. "So you want me to get a headache as soon as we get here," she quips, giving me a look. "Well, you did ask." "Let's do it then, Elias." She agrees, guiding our way towards the building.

The man guarding the booth checks our ticket and we go inside. "Wow," she first says. Wow, indeed. The whole room was a mesmerizing optical illusion, leaving us disoriented. "How do I know if I won't walk into a mirror accidentally trying to get out of here?" she asks but I have already darted away. "Elias!" She shouts, her voice echoing through the illusionary corridors. I mischievously laughed, hiding from her like a child hiding from his mother in a clothing rack in a clothing store. I eagerly wait for her to find me. After a few moments, I decided to explore and not hide.

Once I am walking, I walk unaware that Lorena is just in front of me. We collide into each other and we both start dying in laughter. "Elias!" She raises her voice and seizes my hand. "I was worried I actually lost you or worse you found your way out before me." I laugh and look down. "You would've found your way out eventually." She glares at me and I laugh again.

After many games, banter, and dinner, we decide to go on the ferris wheel that is illuminated in the sunset sky. "It's so gorgeous at night. I've seen it once or twice but being by it is nothing like being far away." I nod and we enter the ride.

During the ride, we see the views of the ferris wheel. Pedestrians walking around the pier, ships that are docked, many multiple story buildings illuminated with light, and the other people on rides having the time of their lives. I stare at her, at one point, seeing how she is captivated with the sight. It dawns on me that even the sights at nighttime pale in comparison to her beauty.

As the carnival lights dimmed, we strolled together hand in hand towards the exit. Our footsteps eventually slow down on the loud gravel. At one moment, we stopped walking to turn to each other in a secluded place. With our fingers still together, her puzzled expression hinted at her confusion about our sudden stop. Her hazel eyes blended colors of green, light brown, and gold. They mirrored warmth in the august air and they radiated in the sunset glow.

"Lorena," I stumble to speak but manage to say. "Yes?" Her tone is curious yet still inviting. "When I'm with you," I continued, drawing her closer by wrapping my arms around her waist, "it's like discovering a new world that I never knew existed." A smile appears on her face and her gorgeous brown hair blows with a slow drift of wind. She reaches up her arms around my neck. "Shut up and kiss me, Elias," She demands. Without hesitation, I lower my head and seal a kiss on her lips. I mustered the courage to ask her the question I wanted to ask her this whole night.

"Lorena, will you be my girlfriend?"

Lorena's POV:

Elias just asked me to be his girlfriend...was I dreaming??? I wanted to slap myself in the face to make sure I wasn't dreaming. But as I took another breath I knew I wasn't. "Yes," I immediately said and we both kissed each other again. Gosh, his kisses were so gentle yet demanding. I wish I could be in his arms forever. We proceed to walk together and I think about just how magical this night has been. Suddenly, I hear my phone ring.

Beep, Beep, Beep.

"One second Elias, let me get this." He pauses his steps, and I release his hand. "Hi Mamma," I greet her and I notice Elias's concerned look in my direction. "Hey Lorena," She replies with excitement. "You sound very excited," I say to her trying to give a hint to Elias that my parents were alright. "Yes, I am. Where are you?"

I hesitate debating whether or not I should tell her I was on a date. I stutter and eventually tell her that I am out on an errand.

"Well I have some news for you sweetie! We're home!"
