"You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do
When they settle 'neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight"-Sara Bareilles, Brave
Even at your worst, strength defined you,
clutching thistles, the sun setting aglow,
hitting your hazel eyes like honey dripping,
recollections of our celestial threads
adorning your shoulders,
mica shards sprinkled by smiles exchanged,
not enough jars to seal the essence of summer's skies,
I yearn to savor those celestial remnants until winter. There's a spread of your favourite PB&J's
over on warm bread,
resting upon my kitchen,
like a warm hug from the back,
while I wait for you,
residual traces imprinting the knife's edge,
kitchen sinks echoing the night's cool breath,
stars showered upon us, a warm, luminous embrace.(Inspired by Summer Haibun)
