Chapter 6

The next day Severide wakes up and heads back to the hospital. He walks into Maddie's room. How was she he asked Casey. No change replied Casey. What the fuck! Why won't she wake up . She had a lot of trauma to the brain Kelly. He sits back down in the chair. Hey thanks for staying here. He said to Casey. I'm here for you Kelly.

They both look at the monitors and it starts to flat line. Severide screams we need help in here!!. Nurses and Will rush in. Severide you need to leave and let us work. No I need to be in here I can't leave her. Kelly you need to leave. Casey grabs his shoulders come on man. Let them work.

Severide watches through the window as they try to save Maddie. He hears Will screaming out orders. Charging 200. Charging 300. An amp of epie.
Come on Maddie Will said. Charge again. Push another epie. No change on monitors.
They keep trying to shock her heart back. Nothing is working. Will looks at Casey and shakes his head. Will calls time of death 8:53. Severide drops too his knees and lets out a scream and wails. No No you have to do something. You can't give up!. No baby you can't die. Come back Maddie you have to come back.

Severide just turns and runs out of the hospital. Gets in his car and drives. A 150 miles an hour. He doesn't care if he dies . Maddie is gone he doesn't have anything to live for now.

Back in the hospital. Everyone is stunned and sobbing that Maddie is gone. All of a sudden Casey looks and Maddie is awake. Oh my God Maddie you are alive. We thought you were dead. First thing she asks Where's Kelly. I dunno Maddie he ran out of here. When he thought you were died. Give me your phone. She dials Severides number. Kelly looks at his phone and hits the decline button.

His voicemail
You reached Kelly Severide
The love of my life is dead. I don't care what you need or want from me. I'm not returning your calls or texts. No I'm not ok.

Maddie leaves a message. Kelly Severide you pick up your damn phone and call back. I'm alive Kelly no you are not dreaming. This is real. Please call back. Better yet get back to the fucking hospital. She keeps calling his phone. Leaves another message.
Damnit Casey you shouldn't have let him leave. You know his going to do something reckless. Get really drunk and go into a dark place. Hailey Jesus Christ. You could have tried to stop him too.

Kelly just keeps on driving and sees all the miss calls from Casey and Hailey. He turns his phone off. He doesn't want to talk to anyone. He gets to Benny's cabin. Goes in and opens up the whiskey bottle and just drinks. He has to numb all the pain some how.

Casey he is at Benny's cabin Maddie said . Let me out of here and I'll go get him. I'm the one he wants to see. Mackenzie Elizabeth you get your ass back in that bed. You are not going anywhere. Hailey yelled at her . Watch me Maddie said. I will place you under arrest Mackenzie. I'm not playing. Get back in bed. Hailey never used her full name. Unless she was really mad at her. Maddie got back in bed. Casey please go get him and take Jay with you.

God knows how many bottles he is in by now. Maddie trys him again. Straight to voicemail. Leaves another message for Kelly. Sexyride baby I'm alive. This is not a drill. Come back Kelly. I'm sending Casey and Jay to come get you. I would come but Hailey is threatening to arrest me if I leave this place.

Casey and Jay head out to get Severide. How drunk are we gonna find him Jay asks. It will be pretty bad Casey said. Jay just shakes his head. He is not gonna be in good shape.

Severide throws the bottle and grabs the next one. Starts pounding that one. Once that is done. He grabs another one. He thinks about the first time he saw Maddie at Molly's. She could light up the room. God she had a fiery personality. Why she have to die He starts sobbing. He says out loud . Maddie I don't think I can go on without. Come back!. He finishes the bottle in his hand. Takes another bottle. He looks over at the trash and sees 6 bottles of whiskey in the trash.

Jay asks Casey how is Severide going to react to the news Maddie is really alive. He probably won't believe it honestly. He will be so drunk that he probably won't be co herent. You were not around when Shay died. He went into a spiral. It took a while for me to get through to him. He did come back to 51 eventually. Just be prepared for the scene you will see Casey said to Jay.
I will be fine Jay said.

Maddie told Hailey that Casey and Jay better bring Severide back. Maddie was still pissed that they didn't stop him from leaving. Give me my phone let me call him. Maddie don't . Hailey give me my phone and let me call my boyfriend maybe if he hears my voice he snap out of it.

Hailey gives Maddie her phone. Maddie dials Severides number. Severide hears his phone ring and he looks at it and sees Maddie is calling him. He picks up and says whoever the fuck this is. It's not funny and it's a sick joke. Maddie said Severide it's me. It's no joke . He hangs up on her.

Maddie said to Hailey he hung up on me.
No shit Hailey said. Maddie he thinks you are dead. I should gotten him myself. Haley rolls her eyes. You are staying here. Casey and Jay will bring him back.

I'm telling you now Hailey if they don't come back with him. I'm going up there myself. I'm telling you. No you are not.

Casey and Jay pull up. They walk in and find whiskey bottles all over. Severide looks at them. What fuck are you two doing here. We are here to take you back Severide Casey said. Well you wasted a trip I'm not going back. I'm quitting the CFD. 51 reminds me of Maddie every where I look. A guy up here offered to sell me his boat business.

You and Jay can leave now. I'm not leaving without you. Well I guess you are. Hey asshole if you checked your messages or bothered to answer your phone. You would know Maddie is alive. What the fuck you just say Severide said. You heard me she's alive. She came too after you ran out of the hospital so fast. The first words she said was asking where you were. I told her idk Maddie.

She gave everyone hell for letting you run out of the hospital. She wanted to come get you herself but Hailey threatened to arrest her. I'm not bringing you back in the condition you are in. Who says I'm going back. Kelly if I don't bring you back Maddie will leave the hospital and come up here herself to get you. Well I'll be waiting then.

Jesus Christ Kelly stop being a fucking jack ass Jay said. She's alive man. Like Casey said if we don't come back with you. Hailey will chew me out so will Maddie.

You don't understand the love of my life is dead nothing else matters to me Severide said. Casey if this was Gabbi you would be acting the same way. Severide you would drag my ass back to Chicago. Wouldn't you not. Yeah your right. Casey pulls out his phone face times Maddie . Maddie we are here with Severide. Please talk to him.

Casey holds the phone in front of Severides face. Sexyride I'm alive I did come back to you. This isn't a joke. Please come back baby. If you don't I'm coming up there myself. Severide was watching this with tears in his eyes. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. This really you Maddie he said. Yes baby it is. I'm here at Chicago med with Hailey and everyone. I know why you think this may not be real. Hell I would act the same way. I heard you when you were talking to me when I was in coma.

Sober up Kelly and come home to me.
If you need a day to process all this. That's ok. I love you Kelly. Come home. I love you too baby Kelly replied through tears..

Casey ends the face time. Kelly I was not lying to you. I think you had to see it for yourself.

I just can't believe this Severide said. Will called time of death. I just ran out on her. I kept preaching that I can't leave her I can't leave her. I ran. What does that make me he said. A human experiencing grief.

I feel so guilty now Severide say.  I should have just waited.  I had to run.  Why didn't you guys come after me he said. Really Severide would you have listened to me. Probably not I would have told you to leave me alone.

At the hospital Will came in to check on Maddie.  He is still shocked and bewildered that Maddie came back from death.   He checks her vitals and everything seems good. How long I am I stuck here for Maddie asked him.  Probably a few days Maddie we still have too monitor you.
