Chapter 12

They sigh as they stare into Kathida's eyes, thinking about their next choices. Based on what they read in that book, Natlan seems really dedicated to them. If they did go there, they would probably either get murdered by the people, or somehow fall into a volcano.

Taking a deep breath, they close their eyes.

"Thank you, Nahida. You deserve so much more than what has happened to you."

She looks at them, both confused and surprised before sighing with a resigned look on her face. She turns away before standing up, turning towards Y/N. They open their eyes when they hear her moving.

"I should return. I wish you well on your travels. Please, stay safe, Your Majesty."

She almost immediately turns away, returning Katheryne's body to her spot. Y/N's sighs and watches her from the bench, a small frown present on their face. They take a second to breathe and think about the future.

'She never said Fontaine wouldn't be safe.. But with the way the book depicted Fontainians and how screwed their vision of justice is.. I'm not sure I would be safe there.'

They slowly stand up, wiping some dust off themself before deciding to go look for a map. If there is a way for them to avoid going through Fontaine and Natlan, they will do almost anything to take it. Walking over to a few stands, they look at the stuff the vendors are selling. The loud bustle of the crowd and the sounds of conversations and work quickly overwhelm them, but they push through it in favor of finding a map and some food.

Doing the best they can to ignore the sounds around them, they push through the bustling crowd. It is definitely a lot more crowded in person than in game, but that is kind of to be expected. Some people move out of the way for them, glancing at them for a few moments before moving back to what they were doing, although most people either don't notice them or ignore them. They lift their hands up to cover their ears slightly, trying to ignore the headache they are getting. They never were this sensitive to sound back home.

Suddenly, Y/N feels a hand on their shoulder. They whip their head around, and lock eyes with the man who grabbed them. Alhaitham. They sigh, relieved at finally seeing a familiar face in this bustling crowd.

He looks them up and down before nodding and holding out his hand to them, trying his best to give them a soft smile. They hesitantly take it, and he quickly leads them out of the crowd. He leads them to a small table, letting go of their hand and brushing his off on his pants. He sits down on one of the way too small and super uncomfortable looking chairs, and motions for Y/N to do the same.

They follow his lead and tap on the table with their fingers, waiting for him to explain himself. He clears his throat and starts talking.

"Hello Y/N, it is a pleasure to meet you."

They nod and speak up, avoiding eye contact and looking around the area, the beautiful scenery of Sumeru city drawing them in.

"Uh. It's a... Ahem. It's nice to meet you too." They turn their head back towards Alhaitham, locking eyes with him. "Can I ask why you brought me here?"

He raises an eyebrow before nodding, bringing his hands in front of him, clasping them together.

"I would like to know why you are in Teyvat. Is there something important happening or did you just decide to come visit your creations for the first time in thousands of years?"

They snort quietly, covering their face with their hands as they laugh into them at his questions.

"Honestly! I wish I knew. I'm just as clueless as you!"
