A voice spoke, indistinct, distant.
"All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."
Kirk instantly knew it was Josh's voice, speaking aloud, declaring.
Kirk's eyes snapped open, alert, but he found himself with a grin on his face...what had just happened?
I am awake...or am I?
"Wakie, wakie..." sounded Josh's voice off to the side. "Time to get up Captain Kirk..."
"Uhh, Josh?"
"Yeppers...beamed aboard, Captain Kirk."
"What was that you were saying?"
"Quoting Poe silly Kirkster, I see Poe's poetry woke you. I thought about making a pot of coffee."
Kirk groaned, rubbing his face. Looking up, Kirk saw Josh, dressed in black...T-shirt, athletic pants. As Josh turned and walked over to where the microwave was running, Kirk could see his shoes and socks matched his jet appearance. The smell of fast food burgers heating filled the room.
"I'm reheating the burgers and fries," Josh declared, bending over and glancing into the microwave. "It will do for brunch since it's afternoon."
Kirk sat up, sighing with a groan, he was rested, yet the dream...or whatever it was, he felt as though he hadn't slept all night.
The microwave chimed, and Josh pushed the door button which clanked, taking out the food which he had put on some plastic plates.
"Food's ready Kirk," Josh said, putting it down on the table. "Come and get it."
Kirk threw off the bedspread and sheets, and struggled to his feet with a deep yawn.
"Oh," Kirk yawned noisily, "I'm sooo tired this morning, afternoon..."
Josh chuckled. "Well that's a brain tease for you."
Kirk looked at Josh inquiringly, and Josh gave a wide, warm smile with a friendly wink.

Both Kirk and Josh had eaten, and now were lounging in bed, watching television. Neither had spoken for a few hours after they had eaten their warmed over fast food for a late breakfast, but it was a companionable silence.
Kirk sensed Josh was waiting for him to speak, and kept getting the feeling Josh was waiting and watching...for something, although Josh's gaze was fixed on the television. Yet Kirk couldn't shake that feeling Josh was observing him intently. Josh was like a solitary tiger, only ready for Kirk to strike.

"Uhh, Josh," Kirk said cautiously, "I found your stash."
Josh turned his head sideways, but remained prostrate on the bed, his body posture relaxed yet indifferent.
"What stash Kirk?"
"Pills...and books."
"Good then," Josh replied and shrugged. "So now you know."
"Yeah I know, and you know that I know that you know I know."
Josh chuckled at the sudden onslaught of wordage from Kirk.
"The question for you Kirk, is what do you know? Or think you've...figured out?"
"Well psych meds, books on telepathy...and the psych meds are for being schizo...hearing voices, or schizotypical...and the telepathy books...delusions of powers and magical thinking..."
Josh began to giggle, and soon his mirth was a loud chuckle as he started at the ceiling.
"Oh Kirk," Josh said, "Kirky..."
