"Fun?" Kirk asked, confused.
"Yeah," Josh said with a big smile, "fun...hey I'm in sweats so it's all good."
Josh gave a knowing smile, and Kirk snorted and laughed.
"Besides," Josh said, his tone serious and vicious, "these bastards tried to hurt us...were going to hurt us...and you Kirk."
"Okay."
Kirk laughed, not at Josh's rebuke but the strange irony. Anyone outside, two college kids were playing games with government agents. Of course, Josh's telepathic ability changed all that...and the three government agents had undoubtedly though Josh was...a dumb college kid with his head, ballcap and all, up his ass.
Josh smiled, shook his head disapprovingly, and then looked at the three men.
Son of a bitch Josh is reading my mind now the little shit.
"Hmmm," Josh said, "what to do...what to do?"
"You could have them drop their pants and sing puff the magic dragon," Kirk suggested blithely.
"Shit..." Josh snorted and shook his head. "Wonderful suggestion Commander Oblivious."
"Just a random idea."
"Who's in charge, the leader?" Josh asked the three men.
"I am," answered one stonily. "I am the boss."
Josh turned, and looked at Kirk with a lickerish grin on his face, and his piercing blue eyes staring into Kirk's own.
"Tell me boss," Josh said, "if your thugs fail, what do you do to keep them from talking?"
"Terminate them," the man, somewhat balding with a thick body answered. "Keep them from blabbing."
"Well," Josh said, his voice light but serious, "these two underlings have failed. Haven't they?"
"Uhh..."
"Haven't they?"
"Yes."
"Good, I'm glad you see it. You know what you have to do then."
"Yes."
In a single fluid motion, the leader pulled out an automatic, and fired twice with a muffled pop. The other two government agents fell to the ground, a small bullet hole in their head.
"Shit Josh!" Kirk shouted in surprise.
"Drop the gun, and have a seat," Josh said casually, gesturing to the empty chair.
The gun clattered to the floor, and the last agent standing sat down in the chair.
"Now stay seated," Josh intoned, "that chair is so comfortable and the weight of standing is beyond your ability to handle."
"Yes...okay."
"Josh...what are you doing?" Kirk asked plaintively.
"Getting to the bottom of things," Josh said, walking aside casually toward the agent. "I want to find out some things."
Kirk folded his arms across his chest, impassive yet wondering what Josh would do.
"Now," Josh said smiling, "tell me your name."
The man stared ahead into space, and then pursed his lips.
"You want to tell me your name, it is who you are."
"Rossett K. Olson."
"Great Oldson, now who do you work for?"
"A defense contractor as an independent consultant, but I'm a special projects operator."
