Erin is welcomed with excited chatters from her fellow freshman as soon as she enters the room. Some already gained friends while some are still wearing off the first day of school jitters.
She scan the entire room to look for a seat and to her dismay, nakuha na ang pinakadulong upuan. The only seats left are on the middle row. Naupo si Erin sa tabi ng bintana kung saan wala pang nakaupo ni isa, mukhang wala rin naman na dadagdag pa because the room is already crowded as it is. Besides, Erin doesn't have any social bones in her body, ni hindi nga nito alam kung paano mag initiate ng conversation.
Maya-maya ay dumating na rin ang homeroom teacher nila kaya nagsi-upo na ang lahat sa kanya nilang upuan. He was a middle aged man wearing a spectacles. He's quite good looking given his age kaya hindi na nagtaka si Erin nang magbulungan ang babae niyang kaklase and gossip about how good looking their homeroom teacher is.
"I won't let you introduce yourself in front of the whole class, I know some of you don't even want to. Kaya hahayaan ko nalang kayong ipakilala ang isa't-isa through socialising" cheers were heard inside the room. Erin sighed in relief. Mabuti naman. She doesn't want to humiliate herself especially on the first day of school. The thought of being in front of everyone while all eyes are on her is frightening.
"Anyway—"
"Sorry, I'm late!" The teacher was cut off when a young student burst through the sliding door radiating too much energy. Mukhang sanay na ito sa atensiyon because he doesn't mind the stares at naglakad pa siya papunta sa unahan at nag bow.
All eyes were on him. His eyes were sharp and fox-like, quite intimidating as well — it's like he could shoot daggers through his stares alone. Ngunit biglang nagbago ang buong itsura nito nang ngumiti siya. His eyes turned crescent, a whisker like dimple emerges from his cheeks. His whole iced persona suddenly melted and turned into a sunshine.
The whole class went awe, something in him radiates too much positive energy. It's like the whole classroom was suddenly filled with enthusiasm — but the most enthusiastic of all, is Erin whose eyes were sparkling and in a brink of tears.
There he is
"I'm Keen Simmons! Nice to meet you!"

Keen scanned the whole room and his eyes met Erin — who's still staring. Nakangiti itong lumapit sa pwesto niya at umupo sa bakanteng upuan katabi nito.
Their homeroom teacher only stated the following rules and regulations ng paaralan as well as its history. Erin, who's still in a state of daze took a quick glance at the man sitting beside him. He is currently humming a song habang may sinusulat sa papel.
She took the opportunity to assess every detail of his features. Matangos ang ilong nito lalo na kapag naka side view, he also has milky white skin tone na mukhang ni hindi man lang naaarawan. His long lashes softens his strong sharp eyes, his silky black hair looked like it was thoroughly taken care off. But the highlight of his features was his pinkish plump lips that shines because of his lip gloss.
"Sign~" he muttered in singsong and then went back to humming.
He looks so much like you, Keeana. I wish you were here to see him.
Seeing him this identical to her deceased best friend is like seeing Keeana — alive and well. Hindi na napigilan ni Erin ang luha sa kanyang mga mata. She was filled with sudden hope, even to her last breath, Keeana still made sure that Erin won't be alone and lonely.
"Signed! Oh?" Nakangiting umangat ng tingin si Keen ngunit agad rin naman itong napalitan ng concern nang makita ang lumuluhang si Erin.
Shoot, bakit pa siya tumingin.
Keen would probably think she's crazy by now.
"Okay ka lang?"
"Huwag mo 'kong tingnan please" Erin was the one who broke the eye contact first. Looking at Keen's eyes is like looking at Keeana's brown orbs which made her even more in pain. Hindi siya ganito ka emosyonal, Keeana even joked about how she's made of stone because of her monotonous expressions.
The grief of losing her best friend must have activated her emotions all at once to the point that she can't control it anymore.
"May nagawa ba akong mali? Gusto mong lumipat akong upuan?"
Erin cried even more, causing all eyes on them. Erin felt bad, hindi ito kasalanan ni Keen but the other students were already putting the blame on him. Even how he speak reminds her of Keeana. The impact of her loss is even greater than she thinks.
"Sorry, I don't know why she's crying either" Naluluha na ring sambit ni Keen at hinila si Erin palabas ng classroom. They stop at the edge of the hallway, walang katao-tao dahil halos lahat nasa kanya nilang klase.
"What did I do?" Maluhang saad ni Keen. Erin felt guilty for not controlling her emotions. She's used to be good at this, but whenever she would think of Keeana, parang may sariling utak ang katawan nito causing her to burts into sudden tears.
She felt sad for Keen, ni hindi man lang nabigyan ang dalawa ng pagkakataong magkita muli. Keeana took her last breath without his brother knowing. The thought made her heart in so much pain.
"Why are you suddenly crying? Akala tuloy nila inaway kita"
Should I tell him? It's his first day of his academy life, he should be enjoying his freshman year, not mourning. But Keen has the right to know. He's her brother after all.
"Hindi dapat ako nandito" it took a lot of courage for her to speak. She even heard her voice crack every now and then. She can't cry while talking, because if she does, hindi na ito makakapag salita and would just cry all through out. "I'm only a subsitute"
"Oh...sorry" ramdam sa tono ng boses niya ang lungkot, even his face says so. "But you're here now, that's what matters" Keen assured, but will he still say that after hearing the name of the student who's supposed to be in Erin's place?
Akmang sasabihin na ni Erin ang tungkol kay Keeana nang hawakan ni Keen ang kamay niya. Erin should be panicking right now, she's not fond of physical touch especially from a stranger. However, something is different from Keen's touch. It was gentle, and comforting.
"Cheer up! You're here for a reason. You may not know it yet, pero makikita mo rin yan soon"
Erin wanted to say that the only reason she's here is because her best friend — which is Keen's twin sister, died. And it doesn't not make it any better.
"Alam ko na! Tara!"
"Saan?" Erin seems to be lost in thoughts dahil nagtanong lang ito nang makarating na sila sa kanilang destinasyon. They were in front of the student council office. Mayroong mahabang pila sa hallway which made Keen sigh in disbelief.
"Man, mukhang hindi lang ako ang gustong mag apply"
