Chapter 27: From Embers to Ashes

Twice in one week, and back to back at that? What is their problem seriously. Suddenly why am I so important that these boys are suddenly at each others throat for me. From where I stood at the entry I wasn't within earshot to hear to what was being said. Okay I don't know why I'm important to Noah all of a sudden but to Hyoga I know why I'm important and I can only guess why Josh is at Hyoga's throat I know he cant stand Noah and honesty Hyoga and I can't stand him either but the three of them have no reason to hate each other as a collective right? I take couple more steps into the courtyard just barely close enough o hear them and I stop moving yet again. The overwhelming intensity bearing down on my shoulders. That's not just tension that's anger emanating off of all three of them. The anger clings to the three boys like a dark shadow that would swallow any light that entered into it. I looked around the courtyard to find other students watching just like me unsure of what to do or if they should just watch

"Id like to be on my way. I don't see why you two are stopping me" Hyoga points out. Id never heard that much irritation in his voice before and I had only ever seen him upset or well angry once and I didn't stick around long to find out. Josh I had never seen him get into an altercation before but I had heard whispers in passing before that he could be a bit much. Id seen Noah after one occasion and it didn't look like Noah was in good shape

"No one was stopping you pretty boy" Noah rolled his eyes

"And no one asked you to open your mouth Noah" Josh scoffs

"Such attitude, What did I ever do to you?" Hyoga shook his head and went to continue walking away only to be stopped

"Really? Now your gonna be petty about it? Look now's not the time or place for this" He says trying to be the bigger person

"Are you always looking for a fight josh? Is that the only thing you've got going for you besides your pretty face?" Noah opened his mouth and I swear he just wanted to make things worse for himself

"I'm still doing better than you. Not like you have much to say with that stalkerish obsession you have with Rhena" He retorts

"Your kinda weird about her too you know" Hyoga pointed out to josh "Being jealous when I'm around, private meetings You think i wouldn't find out?" At that I started to move again my brain seeming to function. I need to keep them from fighting here, even if they end up fighting else where i just need it to not he here at school

"Your the one dating her bust still acting like your still friends!" Josh shouts and i freeze up mid stride. Is that what it looks like to everyone? I suppose has just been really lowkey about it at school. We go out all the time, he makes sure I'm taken care of. He's always there for me, but why does it feel like Josh has a point. Was I ever really all in for this? Wait since when did i care what everyone around me thought, its my relationship and my friendship

"What did you just say?" Hyoga arched a brow his attention and now anger leaving Noah and turning to Josh

"You heard me, and to that what happened the other day. Your supposed to protect her but you left her alone!"

"Shut your mouth, you don't know anything so quit acting like it"

"Make me-"

I watched Hyoga's hands go from being balled at his side to reaching up

"Hyoga!" I called and put a smile on my face doing my best to conceal any of my worry. Despite the trembling that I felt I forced myself to move and run over to his side. I watched as his expression evened but he still looked concerned. I could tell he was hoping I hadn't seen or heard anything. I grabbed his hand in one of mine looking up at him

"Come on we'll be late to meet the others, lets go" I hummed pulling him gently as I started to walk away from the school. We left the tense area behind us and I walked in silence for a few moments still trying to keep it together and hide the trembling but Hyoga knew all of my masking habits way too well
