<Fitz POV>

"Come downstairs, Fitz! Your friends are here!" My mom says loudly, her melodic voice ringing profusely.

All I want to do is stay in my room and be left alone. I tell everyone I'm practising my telepathy, but what's the point? It's not like I'm the best telepath anyway. It's not like I even have a cognate anyways. Nevertheless, I get up reluctantly and plaster a fake smile on my face. I race down the stairs to see Biana and Dex, Tam and Rayni, and Keefe holding hands with... Sophie. My face falls for a second, but I immediately yell, "Who wants to play basequest?"

I'm greeted with a hearty response, and we start divided into two teams, but I soon realise that we don't have an equal number of players. My stomach churns, knowing what happens next.

"We don't have an equal amount of players, so someone has to sit out for each round, I know that this is a hard choice, sorry, but who wants to volunteer?" Biana asks, looking at the ground.

Slowly, everyone but Biana and Sophie turn to look at me. I shrug nonchalantly and fake a yawn. "Oh myyy! I had such a long night, I think I'll sit this one out heh," I walk to a tree with a swing and sit down.

As I sit, I feel a fury that I've been feeling for the past few weeks. In these last months, I've lost my girlfriend, my best friend, my popularity... from the "Goldenboy in the Vacker family" and the best telepath and youngest to ever manifest, I became a loner in my own friend group and had my girlfriend and best friend get together and forget about me, even though we are cognates- COGNATES.

Then the fury builds up a plan in my head, spelling three clear words: STEAL SOPHIE BACK.

STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE  BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK STEAL SOPHIE BACK.. it became a chant in my head.

At first I resist, knowing it'll get me into so much more complications and mixups, but at this point, I feel that if I have nothing now, I have an advantage of having nothing to lose. So I might as well just steal her back.

And for the rest of the day, I play basequest with all my strength and joy left in me. (Whic isn't much anyways, to start with.)
