Love Won't Work Out With Him

<Sophie's POV>

After Keefe left, Grady and Edaline headed to Mysterium for a shipment of gremlins, and since I was home alone, I decide now is a good time to pick up a good book and read under the panakes tree.

And just as I was about to do that, a knock sounds throughout the house from the hall, where the door is. I sigh and head back downstairs, as I was halfway up to my room by now.

Iggy flutters down the stairs after me, having escaped his cage again. I pluck him out of the air and scoop him into my pocket as he protests.

As I walk to the door, the caller knocks again. Annoyed and suspicious, I ask, "Who is it?"

"Sophie? Is that you?" says the mysterious voice.

I tense up and frown, "Yes,"

I turn the lock and yank open the door, my hand going to my pocket, where I keep goblin throwing stars.

But it's just Fitz.

Fitz.

He's wearing a well-fitting tailored jerkin and jacket.

I raise an eyebrow and say cooly, "Hey Fitz, didn't think you'd be back so fast,"

"Sophie, you read the note, right? Trying means coming here every day, to see your beautiful face," he replies slightly bashfully.

"Oh.. uhm.. thanks," I say, my hand reaching up to pluck an itchy eyelash out, not quite sure what to say.

"Is Keefe here?" he asks, glancing behind me worriedly.

I decide I don't want to let him inside.

"No, I'm home alone, but I was just about to change and leave to meet him. He said he'd pick me up. So, no offence, but please make it quick, I have to get going, I'm already late," I lie, not entirely guilty, because I wanted some alone time.

"Oh, apologies, and none taken. I just came to give you this," he pulls out a small, black, velvet box and hands it to me

"You should open it now before he comes," he adds, making a good point.

"Okay.." I lean against the doorframe and open the box.

Inside is a delicate bracelet made of silver, with teal gems encrusted onto it. It has a sot of 'pink glowing aura' around it. It really is beautiful, but I don't have the heart to tell Fitz that teal isn't my favourite colour anymore. Evidently, it shouldn't be.

"Wow, thanks, Fitz, this is beautiful. But you really shouldn't be doing this. This is a girlfriend thing, and I'm not your girlfriend, though I accept your apology," I say.

"It's okay, and I'll respect you. Goodbye, Sophie. " he takes my hand and kisses it, immediately leaping away, to create a drastic effect.

I wipe the hand he kissed on my tunic, disgusted slightly.

As I'm in my room, taking my book, I flop back unto my bed, thinking that love with Fitz would never ever work out at this rate anyway.

Oh, but Sophie is about to be very, very wrong. It's just the love spell that will take some time to work.
