Selfish Liar

Jeongin hadn't felt the warmth of a hug in years. He didn't care how mad Chan was anymore. All he could feel was your arms around him. He took a deep breath, taking in your sweet scent, almost forgetting everything else going on around him until Chan's voice rang through, breaking him from his daydream.

"My decision is you'll stay here. You won't be able to leave until everyone agrees to trust you."

Jeongin perked up, rubbing his eyes and looking to Chan for an explanation.

Chan sighed and gestured for the two of you to take a seat, as he rubbed his cheek. You were sure it probably didn't hurt him too bad, but your risky correction of his behaviour was ballsy and reckless, nonetheless.

You wandered over to take a seat next to Seungmin. It seemed like the safest option. At least you knew Changbin was just hungry. Hyunjin you didn't know at all, and Minho threatened to torture you. So Seungmin and Changbin were your best bet.

Seungmin surprised you by grabbing your hand you had rested on your lap when you sat down. He squeezed it tightly, but you couldn't tell if it was to comfort you or himself.

Chan forced Jeongin to sit next to Hyunjin and Felix, while he eyed you down.

"So, well, we've never told most of you about this because we never thought it necessary." Everyone looked around the room and took note of the fact Minho and Changbin's expressions didn't change. "As you know, we are the fourth generation to be in this mansion. Our ancestors, all coming to the end of their lives, some of which because of the foolish mistakes of the past." Chan turned his attention to Jeongin who again appeared anxious and upset. Honestly, given what Chan was saying, despite his angry outburst, you had an understanding as to why he was so harsh. He was trying to protect his family from threats. And you very well could have been the downfall of all of them. Not entirely sure how, but you're positive there were people out there that would do anything to make sure vampires didn't exist. "Many in the past fell in love." Again he looked at Jeongin, Seungmin and Felix who all seemed to blush and try not to make eye contact with you. "Were deceived, and lost everything. However! There were the genuine of heart, who dared to fall in love with those cursed to walk on this earth eternally, as the undead rulers. The genuine of heart, and the ones who had lost their souls to the curse came up with a way to protect each other. They came up with- this..." Chan held up a chain, with an amulet in the shape of a heart, surrounded by intricate, tarnished, silver metal work. The heart itself looked like dark glass, hollow and empty, as if to be filled by something.

Everyone, with the exception of Changbin and Minho, gazed at it in wonder.

"This is the cursed promise. It allows the human who wears it, and is brought into the oath, to pass between the barrier unharmed, but it binds them to those on this side of the barrier, forever. And it only works, if every being within the barrier agrees to the promise. Meaning we all have to agree. Or in other words, we all have to trust you. And in turn, you're bound to keep our promise, and if you break that promise, it'll be as if you never existed. But if you keep the promise, you may remain forever, human, eternal, and bound to vampires."

Jeongin stood up perplexed by Chan's words. Was he saying what he thought he was saying? "Do you mean?"

Chan nodded.

Jeongin grew angry. "No way! That's not happening!!"

You looked between the both of them, confused, especially at Chan's smirk and Jeongin's defensiveness. What did Chan even mean? Regardless of what he meant though, you needed this amulet! You needed to pass through. You had classes, and people to protect. You had a whole world you needed to explore and you sure as hell weren't going to be trapped in here forever.

"She just won't leave! She stays here." Jeongin protested again before Seungmin shot up.

"You're just being selfish, again!" His outburst completely catching you off guard. Now he was attacking Jeongin? "It's all about you isn't it? We have an interaction with another living being for the first time in forever, who's kind, genuine and not totally freaked out by us, and she has to remain here forever, for you to keep all to yourself like some pet? Grow up, Jeongin. Now I think Chan was completely correct when he said you brought her here purposely trying to trap her, and not just because you wanted to protect her!"

Seungmin glared at Jeongin, while the latter glared back. The tension was palpable.

You suddenly felt yourself being yanked across the couch, behind where Seungmin was now standing, over to Changbin. He didn't seem threatening this time though, rather the opposite. It felt like he was trying to protect you as he hoisted you to the opposite side of him and away from Seungmin.

Felix and Hyunjin stood up trying to ease the tension, but it didn't hold because within seconds, Jeongin was knocking Seungmin to the ground, as they fought like wild animals. Chan and Minho had to physically break the fight apart, as did Changbin and you couldn't help but feel vulnerable with his absence. Unfortunately, even with the three of them doing everything they could to break the two apart, it wasn't working out in their favour.

You felt a rising panic attack that was interrupted without warning, as you were whisked away by another.

You were tossed over someone's shoulder as if you weighed nothing, watching his shoes from the back as he made his way up the steps to the second floor with you danglingly limply. From your point of view, you could still see the fight continue out of control in the living room.

When you made it to the top of the steps you entered a room and were placed on a large bed, finally able to get a grasp of what was happening.

You scrambled back until your head hit the wall, but the mysterious man made no attempt to chase you.

He just took a seat in a chair, at a desk, a short distance from the bed and stared at you. His body lazily spread out, but his eyes sharp and fixated.

It was Hyunjin.
