Work Against the Clock

Hey guys sorry its been awhile since I updated but I have been really busy with my dad just having knee surgery and having to work at the farm. Hope this happens to me one day.

I walk back to the trailer and when I get there Andrew is gone. I go into his camper and fall onto the couch and breath out a sigh.

"What am I going to do with him? He is supposed to be a player not a nice guy." that's when I realize that I am talking to myself.

I should wait a couple of weeks to see if his true colors will show or if what everyone is saying is true and that he is a player and has literally screwed everyone of those damn girls that sit in the bleachers just to act like they know what's happening.

There is knock at the door and I get up to answer it.

I open the door and someone pushes past me, making me stumble.

"Hey, you do know that it is rude to barge into someone's home?!" I yell rubbing the back of my head after I hit it on the corner of the wall.

"I thought my brother told you I was coming over to help you get ready for tonight's run." I realize it's Jo and I mumble an apology.

"What's got you so grumpy?"

"Everything." I make a big gesture to emphasize it.

"Well you must be a ray of sunshine in the morning. But we have a lot to do today including going and buying you an outfit because your other one was too small for you." she smiles and stands up the couch.

"It fit just fine, why can't I just wear it?" I whine.

"No it looked like it was cutting your circulation off from your head."

"Fine but we aren't going far from the rodeo grounds because we only have a couple of hours." I say standing up and slipping my boots back on.

"First you can't wear shorts and boots to the mall. You are going to put your jeans back on or change you shoes." she nods sadly while turning to the door.

"I am putting my jeans back on, my legs are as white as a ghost and people don't need to see that." I say.

"Well then you need to get out more or wear jeans less." she points out.

"I'd rather not because I don't like wearing short. Now can we go so we can get back before it gets late." and with that we walk to her brother's bright blue ford truck.

"This is 'Bluey' and please try not to move anything from it's place or Jason will freak out." she motions her hand over the truck and moves to the drives side of the truck.

The entire ride to the nearest Runnings takes about 45 minutes and we talk about what color shirt I should get and the jeans I need to get.

We walk into Runnings and go straight to women's section and start looking for fancy or nice looking riding shirts.

"I found a light blue shirt, what is the color of you tack set?" Jo asks from the other side of the rack.

"A light blue." she holds up the shirt and I instantly love it. Mostly because we've been shopping for an  hour and I am ready to leave.

"Do you like it?" she asks holding it up to me.

"Yeah, it will match perfectly with my saddle pad and breast collar."

She stares at me and then shakes her head.

"What?" I ask.

"I know you don't want to be here. I can tell you hate clothes shopping." she says while putting the shirt over her arm ad walking to the register.

"I do hate shopping, but I came here to look at the tack because I need a new saddle pad." she looks at me and smiles.

"Well I could use a new headstall and it's been awhile since I have looked at some of the tack Runnings has." she says and turns around and walks towards the back of the store.

We look at tack for about an hour and when we realize what time it is we hurry to the front of the store. We pay for my shirt and a few things we got for the horses and we head back to the rodeo grounds.

When get back to the trailer and we rush to get our things ready because we only have a half hour until barrel racing starts. We rush and make sure everything is safe and on properly.

We warm the horses up on the way to the alley and right when we get there it's my turn to run. I make my way up to the alley way and lightly kick Max, he starts to prance.

"Ladies and gentlemen please welcome back the lovely Clara and Max, make some noise for them. the louder you are the better they will do." the announcer says.

I let the reins loose and we charge into the arena. The next thing I hear is a gun shoot and then everything goes dark, silent and lonely.
