For two years, the Crown had sent its agents in search of a suitable bride for Prince Rhaegar but to no avail.

With Lord Baratheon finding no Valyrians and dying in the process, Daena being too young to be a consideration, and Aerys' spite for Lord Tywin, had left prospects rather grim.

Well, Daena had been a consideration. She was three and ten and had been the most constant contender in the King's mind, he only relented at the nagging of his wife. He grew tired of so many complaints and pleas from Rhaella that he finally dismissed the notion.

Aerys had said that only a princess was a fit consort for his son. And with Daena no longer an option, Princess Elia Martell of Dorne was the only suitable candidate left.

However in the depths of his madness, he believed that Lord Tywin and Rhaegar would betray him so that Rhaegar may take the throne and marry Cersei Lannister. And so he rushed the wedding preparations hastily.

The Martell's had been at court since the match was announced and Daena spent time attempting to get to know her soon to be kin.

Elia was beautiful with dark hair and darker eyes and a slender frame. She often invited Daena and her mother to afternoon teas or luncheons. Daena learned through these interactions that not only was Elia a great beauty but she was kind and clever with a gentle yet sweet wit.

She was a perfect princess.

However, of her soon to be good-sister's family, Daena liked liked Prince Oberyn the best. Though he was nearly her brother's age, she found herself in the youngest prince's company often.

They talked of poisons and adventures and on more than one occasion, Daena took him down into the streets of Kings Landing and into the depths of the city. Rhaegar, or either Ser Barristan or Prince Lewyn always accompanied them but they had the merriest of times, watching plays and drinking in the local taverns amongst the people.

It seemed that a true bond was forming between the Martells and the Targaryens, one that hadn't been seen since Good King Daeron had wed Myriah Martell and Prince Maron Martell formally joined Dorne with the Seven Kingdoms and completed Aegon's Conquest.
