The schoolyard was a sea of uniforms, as students lined up in neat rows for the morning flag ceremony. Yoko moved among her classmates, her focus sharp as she ensured everyone stood straight and orderly.

Her diligence in her role as a class Sergeant At Arms was well-known, and she took pride in the responsibility.

"Stand up straight, Hana," Yoko whispered to her classmate.

As the chatter of students died down and the ceremony was about to begin, Yoko's eyes scanned the crowd one last time.

Suddenly, her gaze landed on Ms. Faye Nalisorn, standing in the middle of the line. For Yoko, time seemed to slow to a crawl.

Faye's presence was like a spotlight, illuminating her in a way that made everything else fade into the backround. Yoko's heart began to race, her pulse quickening with each passing second.

Faye's eyes met hers, and she smiled-a smile that made Yoko's knees feel weak and her face flush with warmth.

Caught in the intensity of the moment, Hoko couldn't look away. Her cheeks reddened, and despite her efforts to maintain composure, she found herself smiling back, shyly and uncontrollably.

Faye began to walk towards her, her movements graceful and purposeful. Yokoms mind face with a thousand thoughts, but she couldn't form a single coherent one. The world around them seemed to blur, leaving just the two of them in sharp focus.

"Yoko," Faye said softly, her voice both gentle and teasing "Why are you blushing?"

Yokoms face burned even more, and she struggled to find her voice. "I... um... it's just a little hot today, Miss Malisorn."

Faye raised an eyebrow, the corners of her mouth curling into a knowing smile. "Is that so? It didn't feel particularly warm earlier."

Yoko bit her lip, trying to keep her composure. "Maybe it's just...you." She whispered, almost inaudibly.

Faye's eyes softened, her smile turning into something more tender, more private. "I'm glad to hear that," She murmured. "You're doing a fantastic job with the line, yoko. Keep up the good work."

"Thank you," Yoko replied. Her voice barely a whisper, her heart pounding in her chest.

Faye lingered for a moment longer, her gaze holding Uoko's conveying volumes that words could not. "Remember, Yoko," she said quietly, "You're more capable than you realize, trust yourself."

Yoko nodded, her eyes shining with gratitude and something deeper, something she couldn't fully express. "I won't forget, Miss Malisorn."

With a final, lingering smile, Faye turned and continued her walk among the student, leaving Yoko standing there, feeling a mix of elation and longing.

The flag ceremony proceeded as usual, but for Yoko, it was anything but ordinary. The memory of Faye's smile, her kind words, and the shared, silent understanding between them stayed with her.

——

The late afternoon sun filtered through the classroom windows as Yoko sat at her desk, surrounded by textbooks and notebooks. She had been studying for hours, her mind feeling as cluttered as the desk before her. With a sight she picked up her phone and snapped a quick photo of her study materials, captioning it, "Studying hard but so tired!"

She posted it to her My Story on Facebook, hoping for some words of encouragement from her friends.

Little did she know that her post would soon catch the attention of someone very special

Ms. Faye Malisorn sat in her cozy living room, grading papers while sipping a cup of tea. She decided to take a short break and checked her phone, scrolling through the social media. As she did, she came across Yoko's My Story.

Smiling to herself, Faye typed a quick reply: "Take a rest! 😉"

She sent it off, feeling a warm glow at the thought of Yoko seeing her message.

Yoko's phone buzzed with a notification. She picked it up, her tired eyes widened when she saw Faye's reply. Her heart skipped a beat, and a smile spread across her face. Quickly, she typed back, "Yes, Ma'am!🫡"

The conversation didn't end there. Faye's next message popped up almost immediately: "Have you eaten?"

Yoko felt a flutter in her chest as she replied, "Not yet, just trying to finish this chapter. How about you?"

Faye: "I had a quick dinner, you really should eat something. You need your energy!"

Yoko: "I will, promise! What time will you sleep tonight?"

Faye: "Probably in about an hour. You?"

Yoko: "I guess around the same time. Can't afford to be a zombie tomorrow!"

Faye chuckled at Yoko's response, feeling a sense of connection through the digital exchange. "We can't have that. Get some food and then some rest, okay?"

Yoko: "Yes, Ma'am. I really appreciate you checking in on me. It means a lot."

Yoko's heart swelled with gratitude and affection.

Yoko finally set aside her books and went to the kitchen to grab a quick snack. She couldn't stop smiling, her heart light despite a fatigue. The memory of their conversation lingered, filling her with warmth and determination.

The following day would bring a new challenges and interactions, but for now, they found solace in the simple act of caring for one another, even from a distance.
