Esdeath and Kos' Past

1900

Outside of Castle Rananna(Cainhurst), Yharnam, Romania

Esdeath's pov:

I was walking outside after I had just sneaked past my caretaker, who was talking to a guard. I wanted to see the creatures that howled through the night since I was fascinated by what the creatures could be since I was almost five. I quietly ran to the woods that I heard the howls before meeting a big, furry creature that stood on a mound close to me. The creature howled to the sky as many of it's kind appeared but far lesser than the one who howled. Fear froze me as ice as I didn't these sharp toothed beasts dangerous, so I started to run as I felt a slight tremo that slightly shook the land. I ran as fast as I could while the beast was catching up before I got to a giant rock that sealed my escape.

Esdeath(age 4): "Stay back!" I shouted as the beast circled around me before it charged at me. I instinctively raised my palm at the beast before I felt a wave of cold exit my hand as I saw the beast become frozen as it jumped at me while I felt something burning in my chest that felt like a brand of sorts. I moved out of the frozen beast's way before it fell down and broke into big pieces. The sight of the carnage and the realization of what I somehow did horrified me. I thought that people would call me a freak, a monster, a demon as tears fell from my eyes. I felt a short burst of heat flare before vanishing as the voice of my father was heard.

Mairon: "Interesting, it seems that my master gave you the power of ice. Maybe that's why you were able to be born." He said as I moved back in shock due to the sudden noise of his voice as the rest of the creatures started to approach us.

Mairon: "Worry not, my little snowflake. I won't think of you as a demon. Hell, you and I are somewhat alike." He said as flames emerged from his fingertips. This shocked me since this is the first time I saw my father's abilities. The flames were small and danced around mesmerizingly like a candle. The creatures then were a few feet before us as they appeared to bow.

Esdeath: "Why are they bowing? I killed a member of their kind." I asked my father, who looked at the creatures with interest.

Mairon: "You killed the wolves' alpha, so they see you as their new alpha and protector. Beings like these have a hierarchy and alpha is at the top. Come now, my snowflake, we shall invite your new companions but remember that they may betray you one day." He warned me before picking me up and walking me back home as I saw small, red dog-like creatures eating the carcass of once living alpha. When we got back, mother was crying about my absence and worried about my new friends before father took her to a separate room to talk.

Feb, 29th, 1915

Castle Rananna, Yharnam, Romania

I was walking around to inspect the guards' positions since I was already done inspecting my regiment and was about to celebrate my birthday with Tatsumi till I heard two off duty guards chatting with each other.

Guard #1: "Have you heard of our new general being a woman?" He asked the other as I hid behind the corner.

Guard #2: "Yeah, that's weird! Women are weak and only good in bed, so why the hell is our commander a woman?!" He said which was making me mad.

Guard: "Apparently she is related to the Duchess. Damn royals, always buying their way into the ranks." He said as I lost my patience and walked out of the corner.

Esdeath: "What's this, is that insubordination and treason I hear? You do know that the Duke's punishment for this would be execution, especially for treason?" I asked with a grin.

Guard #2: "General, we were just.." He attempted to speak before I decapitated him which caused his friend to scream and fall.

Guard #1: "Stay back, demon!" He said while pulling out a crucifix.
