"Please, it wasn't that big of a deal as you make it out."
The boy gave you a long silent look and started rummaging through the gadgets again, deciding that your sentence wasn't worth a reply.
"We made these with Heimerdinger, you wouldn't believe how much he knows about machinery."
You rolled your eyes and decided to just go along with the change of topic.
"More than I do that's for sure."
"I can always teach you if you want."
"I'll keep that in mind."
The boy sighed and smiled.
"You know, if you want to do something, you can always come here and help us."
It was a generous offer, but you weren't so sure about it, Ekko's room wasn't that big and you had only one arm to use now.

"Thank you, but I feel like I'd just stand in your way."
Ekko turned to face you, taking his hand away from the gadgets.
"Nonsense."
He shook his head and pushed himself away from the table, in the direction of his bed. He flopped onto it, you were starting to think it was kind off a habit of his and chuckled softly. Your eyes tore away the table and looked over to the bed. You stood above him, looking down at him, his lips were curled into a small smile.
"Wanna join me?"
Ekko raised one eyebrow at your eyes went wide before you scoffed and rolled them.
"As if."

You assumed your usual position on ground, back against leaned against the bed, and Ekko shifted so that his head was closer to yours. Your hands fiddeled with the laces on your boots and the boy took off his gloves. They came flying your way and fell into your lap.
"Thanks."
"You're welcome, just leave them on the ground."
"Okaayy?"
You slid the gloves off your lap and played with the laces again.
"So uhm, why am I here again? You said you wanted to show me something and I assume that was the necklace you gave and...."
You shut your mouth when Ekko ruffled your hair.
"Maybe I just wanted to spent time with you. Is that such a bad thing?"
"No, I guess not."
"You know, we never really got to know each other."
"What do you mean by that?"
The leader turned his head so that he was now looking at your one busy arm, playing with the shoelaces.
"I mean that I don't even know your favorite color."

You laughed softly and nodded, understanding what he wanted from you. So you told him your favorite color. And he told you yours. And you talked and talked. And it felt so easy to keep a conversation with him, it was like you could talk for days on end. When the light outside started to fade, you moved to the balcony outside his room, your chest rested on the balcony's fencing and your legs dangled from it. Ekko had his back leaned against it and legs outstretched in front of him.

"Where are your parents anyway? You said that they send you into the factory, and you told me what happened to you after that, but never mentioned what happened to them."
You frowned and closed your eyes.
"I don't know, but they can burn in shimmer for all I care."
Ekko's head gently fell onto your shoulder again.
"I get that."
You hummed in responce and relaxed your facial muscles.
"Yours?"
"Dead."
"I'm sorry for that."
"Don't be, it's not your fault."
He scoffed a little. The place was quiet, most of the members were already hidden safely in their rooms and the kids probably already fast asleep by now.

You stood in your room, Ekko went to sleep and at first, you wanted to do so too, but the conversation with the boy sparked an idea in you. You put your cape on and secured a hoverboard on your back and under the cloak of darkness you slipped out of the base and got on your way.
